The Peter B. Teeley Children’s Charities Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Aurora Griffin and Dr. Victoria A. Casey to our Board of Directors.

Aurora Griffin is a native of Westlake Village, California. She studied Classics at Harvard University, Theology at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and earned her MBA from Stanford University.

She has built a distinguished career across finance and public service — from serving as a Wealth Advisor at Bernstein, to holding leadership roles in private equity and venture capital, to advising the U.S. Department of State on counterterrorism and counter-disinformation.

Aurora was also a professor of Entrepreneurship at the Catholic University of America and is a published author. Today, her work at LongeVC focuses on advancing longevity biotechnology by supporting early-stage companies pioneering treatments and prevention of age-related diseases.

Aurora lives in Bethesda, Maryland. She joined us at the Tribute to Pete Teeley in June, where she was inspired by Pete’s legacy and the history of CCF.

We are excited for the fresh ideas, energy, and valuable expertise Aurora brings to our mission. Please join us in welcoming her to the Peter B. Teeley Children’s Charities Foundation Board!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Peter B. Teeley, a remarkable leader, philanthropist, and advocate for children and families. Peter passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service and compassion that has profoundly shaped the Washington, DC community and beyond.

Born in 1940 in Barrow-in-Furness, England, Peter's life was a testament to leadership and dedication. His career in public service began as press secretary to Senators Robert P. Griffin and Jacob Javits, and he went on to serve as communications director for the Republican National Committee. He played a pivotal role in President Gerald Ford's 1976 campaign and was later Press Secretary for George H.W. Bush’s 1980 campaign. Peter served in the White House as press secretary for Vice President Bush from 1981-85.

Peter’s career spanned government and philanthropy, including his tenure as the American representative to UNICEF and his service as United States Ambassador to Canada from 1992 to 1993. He was an innovative leader in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry serving as Vice President of Government and Public Relations at Amgen.

In 1994, Peter founded the Children’s Charities Foundation and invited leaders in business, politics, sports, and journalism to serve as board members. He served as its Chair for an incredible 29 years. Under his guidance, the foundation provided vital support to thousands of children and families in the region, embodying Peter’s unwavering commitment to giving back. Peter launched the BB&T Classic, an annual college basketball event held in Washington, D.C. from 1995 – 2017 as a CCF fundraising event to support local area charities. The BB&T Classic featured a two-day, four team tournament format with local and nationally recognized NCAA teams.

A cancer survivor himself, Peter shared his journey through his 2000 book, The Complete Cancer Survival Guide, offering hope and practical advice to others navigating the same challenges.
Peter’s extraordinary life was marked by his generosity, vision, and enduring belief in the power of community. He leaves behind an indelible legacy that inspires us all to strive for a better future.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Dr. Victoria Casey and his children Susan and Tom Risi, Laura Stanley, Randall Teeley, Adrienne Teeley and Rosa Casey-Teeley as we remember and celebrate his remarkable life.

Dr. Casey has designated The Ruesch Center for the Cure of GI Cancers (https://ruesch.georgetown.edu )
and the Peter B. Teeley Children’s Charities Foundation (www.ccfdc.org) for donations in Peter’s honor.
