💙 Did you know that children and teens can get arthritis? On top of managing a complex chronic condition, young people with arthritis often face misinformed comments like, “you’re too young to have arthritis” or “kids don’t get arthritis” from their friends, teammates and even teachers.

🧠 Today is World Mental Health Day. Did you know that mental health problems, especially anxiety and depression, are more common in children with rheumatic diseases?

It's not surprising since they often struggle with physical and social limitations, chronic pain, and the burden of managing a complex – and sometimes invisible – medical condition throughout their childhood.

💙 CARRA researchers are working hard to find better ways to address mental health concerns. Here’s just one example. CARRA’s Mental Health Workgroup, including patients and families, led the way to develop the first evidence-based consensus guidance statements for mental health in youth with rheumatic disease. These were endorsed by the American College of Rheumatology and published in Arthritis Care & Research. Read them here: ➡️
