Many believe food allergies are a childhood condition. In fact, more than 10% of adults manage at least one food allergy. Almost half are navigating life with multiple food allergies - making daily decisions even more challenging and risk of reaction even higher.

In honor of food allergy awareness week, it bears repeating:
Food allergies are a real diagnosis - not a preference.

Food allergy is a diagnosed condition that can affect the skin, lungs, heart, digestive system (mouth, throat, stomach), and brain. Consistent policies allow allergic families to plan how to protect themselves when traveling. AllergyStrong urges all airlines to consider pre-boarding for food allergy. This would bring food allergy in line with other pre-boarding polices as food allergy can be considered a disability under the law for its interference with major life functions (eating and breathing).

3/11/2026 I recently flew Southwest Airlines with my 19-year-old daughter from Cleveland to Orlando and back. Upon purchasing the round-trip ticket, I was pleased to see that there was a box to check for a “peanut dust allergy” for my daughter. I assumed that this made her eligible for pre-board...

Honored to serve and support the Elijah-Alavi Foundation. They work tirelessly to protect children with food allergies across the country with their research and programming.

We are deeply grateful to welcome Stacey Saiontz , Jill Mindlin, AllergyStrong Erin Darcy Malawer, and Lianne Mandelbaum to the Elijah-Alavi Foundation Legislative Advisory Team.

Each of these extraordinary leaders brings years of experience and expertise in food allergy advocacy and legislation, having worked on, supported, and helped advance important laws that strengthen food allergy safety and protections for children and families. Their leadership has played a meaningful role in shaping policy and moving legislation forward across the country.

Their continued support and advocacy alongside EAF on Elijah’s Law helps drive the mission of improving food allergy awareness, education, and emergency preparedness in childcare and school environments.

We are honored to have Stacey, Jill, Erin, and Lianne lending their voices, experience, and dedication to this work as we continue building safer communities for families living with food allergies.

AllergyStrong is proud to share the findings of this interesting study which include disparities in recognizing symptoms of anaphylaxis as well as barriers to accessing epinephrine. Highlighting these gaps in education and understanding is important in addressing them to better equip and protect patients in the future.
