THREE EVENTS. TWO CITIES. ONE WEEKEND. ONE MISSION: SERVICE!

The Krewe of Pyros had a triple-header weekend bringing the FIYAH from the DMV to the Bayou!

❤️ Heart Health: We volunteered with STEM NOLA for Heart Day in New Orleans reminding the community to get those hearts checked! Fun Fact: Did you know our blood is blue?

🏃🏾‍♂️ Military Support: We showed up for our Service Me
mbers and the Military Community at the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, DC.

🍗 Festival Fun: We collaborated with Events DC for the National Fried Chicken Festival in New Orleans with Capital City Mambo Sauce joining the flavor!

🔥 October Member Spotlight: Juanita Batiste 🔥

A native of Gonzales, Louisiana, Juanita Batiste embodies service, leadership, culture, and empowerment. She attended the University of New Orleans before relocating to the Washington, D.C., area in 1990. She later earned a degree from George Mason University and built a distinguished federal career spanning more than 30 years, rising from federal police officer to the Senior Executive ranks before retiring in 2023.

Juanita’s journey to the Krewe of Pyros began through friendship, faith, and service. Introduced to KOP by her colleague and sponsor, Charter Member & Corresponding Secretary Claudette Reams, the two bonded through The Purpose Driven Life Book Club, their Christian faith, and serving meals to individuals experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C. In 2021, Juanita joined KOP finding the perfect connection between her Louisiana roots and her passion for community outreach.

Today, she serves as Co-Chair of the Community Service Committee, helping lead initiatives that positively impact communities throughout the DMV and beyond.

Family is at the heart of Juanita’s journey. A proud Daddy’s girl, she deeply values the Batiste family heritage and the wisdom passed down by her father and family elders. Their lessons of faith, resilience, service, and community continue to guide her life and leadership.

A lifelong learner, avid reader, entrepreneur, and world traveler, Juanita has visited six continents, 48 countries, and 38 states and has launched her own travel business since retirement.

Grounded in faith, family, and service, Juanita continues to live the KOP mission every day—Illuminating the Path to Empowerment. 🔥
