🏳️‍🌈📰 Congratulations to Jim Provenzano, our 2026 Lisa Ben Award recipient! Provenzano is the Arts & Nightlife Editor for the Bay Area Reporter, where he has worked since 1992 as a staff writer, editor, photographer and cartoonist. The award will be presented at NLGJA's 2026 National Convention.

🏳️‍🌈📰 Congratulations to the San Francisco Bay Times, our 2026 Legacy Award recipient! Founded in 1978 as the first newspaper in California jointly produced by LGBTQ+ women and men, the paper is still publishing nearly 50 years later. The award will be presented at NLGJA's 2026 National Convention.

We're excited to announce that Michael D. Bolden, dean and professor at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, is the recipient of the 2026 NLGJA Leadership Award.

The award recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact on their newsrooms by increasing diversity and improving news coverage of the LGBTQ+ community.

"Newsroom leadership shapes whose stories get told, and Michael Bolden has understood that at every stop in his career," said NLGJA Executive Director Adam Pawlus. "Now, he is teaching a generation of journalists to cover communities like ours with accuracy and care."

Bolden, the former CEO of the American Press Institute, has worked as a local reporter and national editor, a teacher, a nonprofit leader and a champion of inclusion and belonging, with senior roles at The Washington Post, the Knight Foundation, Stanford University and the San Francisco Chronicle.
