In Memoriam - Lewis Friedman, Ph.D.
Dr. Lewis Friedman, who served as the 40th President of the New York Metropolitan Chapter, American Society for Public Administration, from 1984-1985, passed away last month in Bearsville, New York.
A native of Brooklyn, New York City, Dr. Friedman was a graduate of the City University of New York, with M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State University. He taught public administration at the Bernard M. Baruch College of C.U.N.Y. for many years, and chaired Baruch's Department of Public Administration. He was considered an expert in the field of budgeting and public finance, and published widely in that field.
Dr. Friedman later served as Education Director of the National Urban Fellows (NUF), an independent not-for-profit organization. NUF in time became one of the leading programs in the nation promoting graduate public service education for women and persons of color.
From 2014 until this year, Dr. Friedman served as Trustee of the Baruch College Fund, and later as a member of the Marxe School (Baruch College) Dean's Advisory Council. During his term as ASPA New York Metro Chapter President, Dr. Friedman led efforts for the New York Chapter being selected as host for the 1987 Northeast (Regions I/II) Public Administration Conference (NECoPA), which commemorated the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.
May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing.
