Archaeology in the Community (AITC) is an education nonprofit dedicated to teaching students about how archaeology works and why it's so important.

AITC's goal is to foster a greater connection between the public and the field of archaeology. AITC is a network of archaeologists, anthropologists, teachers, and volunteers working together to promote a greater understanding of archaeology’s important role—presenting all citizens with a greater knowledge of their past. Our educational and outreach endeavors make archaeology accessible to youth, schools/colleges, community members and community organizations though creative programs and community projects.

What a great way to wrap up Summer by concluding four programs with Playtime Project Project!
From playing the ancient Egyptian game Senet to creating 3D models with LiDAR, students explored archaeology through hands-on activities while learning about the many specialties within the field. It was inspiring to see their curiosity and creativity in action.
Thanks to Playtime Project for the opportunity to learn, play, and explore together!

We did it! 🎉 Our Young Archaeologists’ Club ended with 67 students learning archaeology through ancient board games, the original soccer, VR/AR, DC history, weaving, museum exhibit design and students became maritime archaeologists through uncovering a shipwreck by piecing together clues and examining 3D-printed artifacts from the Virtual Curation Lab.

A huge thank you to graphic designer Gina Sarti for creating graphics to help us spread the word about the club and to DC Public Library and the Anacostia Community Museum for hosting us. ❤️
