Who’s next?

Anthony DeVore spent years asking Oklahoma to go easy on people who strap knives to roosters and watch them fight to the death. Last night he asked voters in southeast Oklahoma (the heart of that world) to send him to the statehouse.

They said no.

People who mess with animals don’t belong in office.

Cockfighting just lost big at the ballot box in Oklahoma!

Republican voters in House District 19 overwhelmingly rejected Anthony DeVore, former president of the Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission, and elected Michael Brittingham by roughly a two-to-one margin.

DeVore spent years advocating to weaken Oklahoma's cockfighting law and was later charged after Animal Wellness Action investigators caught him entering birds in an illegal cockfight.

Even in a rural district once regarded as a stronghold for cockfighting sentiment, voters weren't buying it.

Oklahoma voters sent a message: pro-cockfighting politics lose.

17 YEARS for dog fighting. That’s what accountability looks like. For too long these cases ended in probation and slaps on the wrist. Not anymore. Now we push: pass the FIGHT Act, pass the Animal Cruelty Enforcement Act, and demand DOJ treats animal fighting like the organized crime it is. Stick with us.

Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy join millions today mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, whose kindness extended to animals great and small.

In 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service honored her with its Partnership Award for her vital support of bald eagle recovery through the American Eagle Foundation at Dollywood.

Dolly’s compassion for wildlife and companion animals leaves a lasting example. We honor her by continuing the work of protecting animals everywhere.

Helping animals helps us all.

We need to stop voting for horrible people.

Guys like Oklahoma’s Anthony DeVore are 0 for 3: hurts animals, breaks the law, burns other people who are struggling.

The only way to fix the problems we face in America is to elect GOOD PEOPLE into office. That’s up to you and me.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Hayden Panettiere.

Millions knew Hayden for Heroes and Nashville, but animal advocates will also remember her as a courageous and passionate voice for wildlife.

At a young age, Hayden put her celebrity behind the protection of whales and dolphins. She traveled to Taiji, Japan, took part in a dramatic protest against the dolphin slaughter there, appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove, advocated before Congress, and served as a spokesperson for the Whaleman Foundation.

She didn't just lend her name to the cause. She showed up. She spoke out. She took risks for animals who needed a voice.

We mourn a talented artist and a committed animal advocate taken far too soon. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched

Your dog shares 99% of its DNA with this animal. 🐺

Every golden retriever, every rescue mutt, every pup asleep on your couch descends from wolves. And right now, there are only about 7,000 of them left across the lower 48 states — in a country of 340 million people.

Wolves aren’t the villains of the story we grew up with. They keep entire forests healthy. Where wolves live, deer herds stay strong and disease stays rare. And the harm they cause to farm animals? Less than a tenth of one percent.

After decades of recovery, the protections that brought them back could soon go away — before the comeback is finished.

If you love the wolf in your living room, speak up for the ones in the wild.

A HISTORIC VICTORY FOR BEAGLES!

After 60 years, Ridglan Farms is closing—and the last beagles have left the facility.

More than 2,100 beagles are now out of Ridglan and the laboratory-animal pipeline. What was until recently the nation’s second-largest supplier of beagles for laboratory testing is coming to an end.

This is what persistence can accomplish. It’s a day to celebrate the dogs, the people who fought for them, and a future in which animals are no longer treated as laboratory commodities.

America shut down its last horse slaughterhouse in 2007. So why are 20,000 American horses still ending up on dinner plates? Because we ship them across the border to Canada and Mexico instead. The SAFE Act closes that loophole for good — no slaughter here, no export for slaughter anywhere. 83% of Americans want this done.
