BREAKING: New York City is one step closer to ending horse-drawn carriages for good.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin have reached an agreement to advance Romanch's Law, legislation that would phase out NYC's horse-drawn carriage industry by June 2028.

The agreement follows years of controversy over carriage horse welfare and the tragic death of 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan in a Central Park carriage accident earlier this year.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on October 22.

After decades of debate, New York City could finally be approaching the end of its horse-drawn carriage era.

BREAKING: A federal judge has dismissed the Justice Department’s lawsuit challenging Michigan’s cage-free egg law.

The law prohibits the sale of eggs from hens confined in extreme cages. The DOJ sought to overturn it, but the court ruled that the federal government failed to establish standing to bring its case.

The ruling follows the dismissal of a similar federal lawsuit challenging California’s farm animal confinement laws earlier this year.

Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy intervened to help defend Michigan’s law.

In the United Kingdom, animal rights group Camp Beagle reported on September 30, 2026, that an open rescue, leading to the freeing of three beagles, took place the previous night at MBR Acres, a facility in the UK that breeds beagles for laboratory research.

Camp Beagle, which campaigns for the closure of MBR Acres, shared footage of the three puppies and described the action as part of its ongoing efforts against the site.
