☀️ As the sun sets on summer, we’re sharing lay missioner Susan’s trip to the beach with the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany today for Mission Monday.

Susan serves in Kingston, Jamaica, where she lives and serves with the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. On a community outing to the beach, Susan taught some of the Sisters how to float in the water!

🕊️ What is yours to do?

You can help make sure that our missioners and volunteers can continue to listen deeply, help everyone they encounter feel seen and heard, and make a difference in many lives. You can be a part of making a difference in the lives of our marginalized neighbors. You can embrace what is yours to do.

We invite you to help us reach our goal in this Jubilee Year of St. Francis to add 80 new recurring donors to celebrate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ death.

💬 “I have always thought of myself as a Martha and felt guilty about not being more of a Mary—especially since I realized how radical it was of Jesus to praise a woman for escaping her traditional role and joining his male students. My number one goal for these mission years is to spend less time doing and more time at my Master’s feet.”

In her most recent blog post, Mary Liston Liepold, OFS reflects on Martha, Mary, and Lazarus of Bethany while describing how she has become more like each of these holy siblings during her time on mission.

🌳 This Mission Monday, we’re featuring lifelong missioner Victor Artaiz.

While Victor served as a lay missioner with FMS, he served in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He lived at the Centro Social Franciscano and participated in the various ministries and resources that they provided to the local community. Among many other ministries, Victor also served with Cristo Rey, a home for children run by the Augustinians, accompanied a family on their farm in the countryside of Santa Cruz, and participated in several family ministry initiatives in the community of Los Molinos.

🕊️ This summer, embrace what is yours to do.

The 11th class of DC Service Corps volunteers have just finished their year of service, and a new program year is just around the corner. Each year, we hear many stories from our volunteers’ ministry sites of how impactful their efforts have been in the local community.

During this time of transition, we’re reflecting on a few of St. Francis’ final words, “I have done what is mine to do. May Christ teach you what is yours to do.”

The DCSC program fosters an environment where young adults understand and embrace “what is theirs to do.” While we might not be called to serve as volunteers in this program ourselves, we can still join them by financially supporting FMS. Your generosity supports current and future volunteers who seek to serve in the Franciscan charism. We hope you’ll make a donation today as something that is “yours to do.”

💬 “It was at that moment that I remembered to turn to the Lord with trust, and so somehow I let go of my self-pity and walked back to the group and joined in the song and dance that Sr. Saane was teaching. My anxiety turned into peace and playful delight as the children and I pranced about and sang off-key. The remaining days of our chaotic program turned into a lot of fun for all.”

In her newest blog post, lay missioner Susan Sarkissian reflects on how leading a summer Bible camp has helped her grow in trust, surrender, and peace.
