As Cuba faces deepening economic hardship, tensions with the United States also appear to be escalating.

Over the weekend, Cardinal Michael Czerny invited us to “…pray that every political, economic, and international decision may be guided by wisdom, prudence, and a sincere search for the good of all people. Let us pray that the Lord may turn the hearts of men and women towards universal brotherhood.”

Across Cuba, the Loyola Centers, an important work of the Jesuits, continue to serve vulnerable communities through psychological counseling, family support, and community programs that help individuals navigate uncertainty with dignity and resilience. We are proud to support this work and continue to pray for our friends and partners serving communities throughout Cuba.

“Let us pray, then, that the beloved land of Cuba may know days of greater serenity, of authentic human and social development, of harmony and hope.”

This Earth Day, we are reminded that caring for our planet begins in the daily actions of communities around the world.

This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, points to a simple truth: real environmental progress is driven by people. By farmers protecting their land, educators sharing knowledge, and communities working together to sustain what they depend on.

In many places, small-scale producers face growing challenges and are often excluded from the financial systems and markets that could help them thrive. Through the Comparte Network, the Jesuits are working to develop new economic models and opportunities for those living on the margins.

By strengthening cooperatives, supporting sustainable agriculture, and expanding access to fair financing, communities are building livelihoods with dignity, remaining rooted in their land, and caring for the Earth for future generations.

The “altar of thanksgiving” from the Cerro de Dios cooperative in El Salvador reflects this deep connection between community, land, and gratitude. This week we are participating in the Global Action Week for Education 2026. Organized by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), education movements from around the world are joining together to advocate with a clear message: Hold the Flame High for education financing. Investing in education transforms lives, strengthens communities, and builds a more just future.

We know that education systems need sustained and predictable financing to succeed. So, we are joining Global Campaign For Education-US and other organizations to call for stronger support for education.

At the end of March, staff and board members of American Jesuits International traveled to El Salvador to accompany our partners, deepen relationships, and better understand the realities shaping their work.

Over several days, we visited projects led by Fe y Alegría and the Comparte Network—encountering both the challenges communities face and the hope that continues to drive their efforts. From classrooms and vocational centers to rural cooperatives, we witnessed how education, sustainable livelihoods, and community-led initiatives are creating opportunities rooted in dignity.

Across every encounter, one theme remained constant: the power of accompaniment. Through relationships grounded in trust and shared mission, we continue to walk alongside our partners in building a more just and hopeful future.

We are thrilled to welcome two new members to our Board of Directors: Fiorella Magnano and Mercedes Solís. Named by CPAL as representatives to our governing body, both bring extensive experience working with our partners in Latin America and will be strong additions to our team as we continue to grow and advance our mission.

Our Board includes Jesuits as well as lay men and women who share a deep commitment to our mission. Members accompany and guide our work as we develop strategic plans, annual budgets, and project proposals. They also ensure that we remain grounded in our mission, vision, and values as we respond to the complex realities of global education and development.

Our Board members are also our strongest ambassadors. They offer expert perspectives that help guide our sustainable growth. Together, they are building a world where dignity, human rights, creation care, and the flourishing of all people are at the forefront.

We look forward to their leadership and vision as we continue advancing our mission.

This year presented significant challenges for many of our partners, particularly in the face of reduced funding streams. Yet, through the continued support of our community, Jesuit works across Latin America, Africa, and Asia endured and expanded.

As Executive Director Nate Radomski says in his opening letter, "As you read this report, I hope you see not only impact, but relationship. Not only resilience, but shared commitment. Together, we are proving that solidarity is rooted in faith, trust, and deep respect for human dignity.”

Your generosity—through financial support, advocacy, and solidarity—has made this impact possible.

Thank you for being part of this mission. AmericanJesuitsInternational.org/AnnualReport
