Most of us learned Ascension as the moment Jesus left. But what if the early church understood it differently? What if they understood it as the moment Christ's presence expanded beyond the limits of a single body and instead flooded ALL of creation.

Ephesians 4:10 tells us, "He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe."

For those of us called to creation justice work, this matters. We don't protect the earth despite Christ's absence...rather we protect it because Christ dwells within it.

Every mountain, every watershed, every neighborhood fighting for clean air...perhaps it's already holy ground.

Maybe ascension isn't about Christ leaving earth, but inhabiting it in it's fullest capacity.

Two congresspeople have initiated a process to fast-track the dismantling of protections for the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

This could open the door to out-of-control vehicle use and the clearcutting of ancient pinyon-juniper forests. As people of faith, we are called to be caretakers, not exploiters, of the Earth. To undo this plan is to invite chaos where there should be care, threatening the endangered species and sacred cultural sites that call this monument home.

Contact your members of Congress today and urge them to honor Creation by voting NO on these joint resolutions at creationjustice.org/action.

In Derrick's house, birthdays are a big deal! It's important that everyone takes time to celebrate, reflect, and cast visions for the upcoming year.

For many liturgical traditions, Pentecost is considered the “birthday” of the church. It is when we celebrate the post-resurrection community of Jesus’ followers receiving the Holy Spirit and beginning the process of doing life together. We commemorate a gathering in which people from every corner of the ancient world came together, each hearing the good news in their own language. It’s both a celebration of both the unity and the diversity of the body of Christ.

This short documentary follows two Detroit congregations (Scott Memorial United Methodist Church and Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church) as they confront illegal dumping, food insecurity, and decades of environmental neglect in their own neighborhoods. With support from Creation Justice Ministries and the American Geophysical Union's Thriving Earth Exchange, church members are turning vacant lots into community gardens, combating illegal trash dumping through research and beautification, and building a model of faith-rooted, community-driven environmental action.

Join us for a screening and conversation about how churches can be powerful agents of change in their own communities and what it might look like to replicate this work in your community.

Join Creation Justice Ministries' friends at the The BTS Center on Wednesday, May 20th from 7:00-8:30pm ET for the webinar: Lilac in May: Art & Resistance.

Is art a luxury in an era of polycrisis? We don't think so. On Wednesday, May 20, The BTS Center gathers three renowned eco-spiritual artists –a poet, a cartoonist, and a musician– to explore what this moment demands of our creativity and courage. Come for the beauty; stay for the calling.

You can take $5 off when you register with the code 5OFF: https://thebtscenter.org/lilacinmay
