Washington, DC is lucky to have a large and vibrant West Coast Swing (WCS) community that offers several weekly classes, socials and annual events. As the Brazilian Zouk scene in Washington, DC and nationally has been growing, there has been growing interest from dancers in the zouk and WCS communities in crossing over and fusing the styles. In October 2016, Helen Chao (a local WCS dancer) and Ash
ley Kent (a local zouk instructor) got together and organized a local swouk party at Glen Echo Park with a support team of District Zouk and several local WCS dancers. Ashley Kent and Jalene Haramia are now organizing monthly swouk parties, often bringing in international and champion-leveled zouk and WCS artists and instructors.
