Tanikia was on the registry for many years before she was finally called when she matched a young patient needing a stem cell transplant to survive.
“It was an honor to help an anonymous child in need of my stem cells. I was his best possible match. How could I not help? I have been told countless times that it was great of me. My response is, it can be great of you too! It starts with a simple cheek swab.
My dear friends founded Shannon’s S.H.A.R.E. over 10 years ago after the heartbreaking loss of my college friend’s daughter, Shannon, to Leukemia. If you cannot join the registry, there are other ways to support them as they work to get more people on the registry and support families with members suffering with blood cancers and diseases.” - Tanikia
This Black History month, we are highlighting those that have made a difference and encourage you to do the same.
