FABBS mourns the devastating loss of Norman B. Anderson, PhD, who passed away entirely too young on March 1st. Dr. Anderson had just begun his term as FABBS President-elect this year, and had already made significant contributions to the mission of FABBS.

He will be remembered by his colleagues for his kindness, wisdom, mentorship, humility, friendship, and a remarkable legacy in the behavioral sciences.

Congressional leaders in both chambers have agreed to, yet another, continuing resolution to avoid a partial (Agriculture, Transportation and Housing, Energy and Water, and Veteran’s Affairs) government shutdown after March 1. March 8th is the deadline for the other eight bills, including those funding FABBS sciences.

While averting a shutdown is good news, keep in mind that the fiscal year ended on September 30, 2023 and that three of the four bills continue to be contentious and will still need to be resolved.

Congratulations to Dr. Jacqueline Chen, Associate Professor of Social Psychology at the The University of Utah, on receiving the inaugural FABBS Kellina Craig-Henderson Award for Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA Award). 🎉

Dr. Chen’s research explores how people perceive and behave toward outgroup members and how to promote understanding of diverse intergroup interactions. She is the principal investigator of the Social Cognition and Intergroup Perception (SCIP) Laboratory, which uses social psychological methods to investigate topics related to intergroup relations and diversity. Dr. Chen and her collaborators established the American Multiracial Faces Database (AMFD), a database of multiracial face photos that provides behavioral science researchers with more diverse stimuli and increases the representation of multiracial individuals in research.
