Please see the message below from section President Chris Mooney regarding the Tom Carsey Award Fund. Thank you to Jennifer Jensen for the matching contribution.
Folks-
It is my great pleasure to announce a matching gift with the goal of topping off the Tom Carsey Award Fund to support graduate student travel to our annual State Politics and Policy Conferences. With your help, we can finish the initial endowment for this fund and start supporting students with it next year for the University of Maryland event.
Our friend and colleague Jennifer Jensen has generously offered to match any donation made by November 1 to the Carsey Fund dollar for dollar, up to $4,000. Currently the deputy provost for academic affairs at Lehigh University, Jennifer is a scholar of state governors, with particular interest in their role in intergovernmental relations (see her recent book on the University of Michigan Press about the states lobbying Washington). Her support is a testament to the importance of the section and SPPC’s to the careers of our members, to our collective vision of ensuring that the conference is accessible to graduate students, and to our desire to recognize Tom Carsey. With $4,000 in individual gifts and the $4,000 match, we expect the Carsey Fund to reach our stated funding goal of $75,000 required for us to start drawing from the fund.
So please think of contributing to the Carsey Fund before November 1 so that we can take full advantage of this matching offer.
TO DO SO, SIMPLY GO THE SECTION’S APSA PAGE AND CLICK THE LINK: https://www.apsanet.org/section22. Alternatively, you can send a check to me or section Secretary Shanna Merkowitz-Pearson (cc’ed). If you have any questions or difficulties with this, please contact Shanna or me immediately.
To all of you who have contributed to the Carsey Fund to date, you already have my deepest appreciation. To those of you who will help us push the Fund over the top, welcome on board!
Best-
Chris
