Mosenah T Bility, a President's Young Professionals Program - PYPP Fellow, opens her piece, From Liberation to Delivery: What Kigali Taught Me About Africa’s Next Chapter, with this conviction.

Having participated in the Africa Mindset Reset Forum hosted by The African School of Governance - ASG - alongside EPL leaders Winnie S Oguerilam, Talha V Al-Sherif, and Soline S. Weah from PYPP, and Idah Geoffrey from Public Leaders of Malawi - Mosenah reflects on the learning, connections, and conversations to which she contributed a unique voice as a young public servant.

As a Fellow assigned to the Presidential Delivery Unit in Liberia, she also shares how the key lessons echo the PYPP training and the good governance practices she encounters daily.

Positioning young leaders at the forefront of conversations like those at the Forum is critical to successfully transform dignity into excellence and build collaborative, ethical, and innovative institutions.

EPL's in New York this week, participating in key events and conversations on the sidelines of !

Our Interim Executive Director, Emily Stanger Sfeile, and Co-Founder, Betsy Williams, are bringing the energy, impact, and experience of our to the forefront of every discussion.

In conversations with the Interim Executive Director last week, Fellows and Alumni from our pan-African network of more than 800 young leaders shared reflections on their public-sector work and the new challenges governments face in technology and health.

Their messages were clear

🔹Governments are digitizing services, receiving enthusiastic responses from citizens, but there is still a gap in policy, security, and capacity that needs to be addressed.

🔹Funders should back African tech solutions to African problems. Young leaders are leading digital development and are poised to innovate and expand local datasets, language models, and research, but strategic investment is needed.

🔹Meaningful youth participation in policy development, from design to implementation, is necessary. Young people have greater technological literacy than any other generation and can bridge the gap and build innovations across sectors.

🔹The impact of reduced foreign assistance on healthcare is visible in the shortage of vaccines and rising infectious disease cases. African governments must move from reactive to proactive, foresight-driven health policy with internal health financing solutions led by leaders, scientists, and healthcare professionals in Africa.

As young public servants, our leaders are determined to drive innovations that will build equity and prosperity in their communities.

Already, they are addressing critical needs: leading automation and digitization processes in their offices, advocating for greater AI security and use guidelines, founding hospitals and leading public health initiatives, and creating spaces where they can shape better policy development.

Today, we'll be meeting with funders, government and public-sector leaders, and implementers working to strengthen government capacity for what promises to be an incredible discussion on how to invest in scaling through government at .

Graduations are a time to celebrate!

Last month, as the President's Young Professionals Program - PYPP 12th Cohort in Liberia took the civil service oath and received their certificates, we celebrated the impact of leadership across the generations.

Standing at the podium where her mentor stood 14 years before, Joseta Neufvill-Wento, an alum of PYPP Cohort III, shared her testimony as a mentor to Roseline Philips, who was placed at the National Road Fund of Liberia as the first female engineer.

Joseta reflected on how Roseline distinguished herself through innovation, technical excellence, and public service. With heartfelt pride, Joseta shared Roseline's acceptance as the first Liberian engineer to support road fund operations in Kenya.

Joseta and Roseline exemplify how mentorship empowers young professionals and the unique impact of graduates coaching the next generation.

With more senior members of our Alumni Networking now mentors, Fellows learn from their firsthand experience of the barriers young leaders face. EPL alumni mentors can expertly guide and challenge new public servants to aim higher while reinforcing our core values of integrity, excellence, citizen-centric leadership, partnership, and accountability.

Mentorship impacts more than one individual. Joseta's mentor prepared her to mentor young leaders, as she prepared Roseline. At the National Road Fund, the ripple grows, with the newest interns receiving road management and climate resilience training and mentorship from Roseline.

After 17 years of mentorship, training, community immersions, and expansion in Liberia, we can see the institutional shifts a cadre of ethical young women and men drive - building more significant roles within the public service, especially for young women and persons with disabilities, and leading equitable policymaking and public service delivery.

Our leadership model continues to strengthen institutions for delivering democracy across Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and Sierra Leone. With ongoing investment in youth leadership from partners new and old, we are committed to building the next generation of ethical and transformative African leaders.

From Emerging Public Leaders of Sierra Leone's curriculum contextualized partnership with the Civil Service Training College, Public Service Commission, Public Sector Reform Unit, Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Youth Affairs, and the Office of the President to ensure youth capacity development strengthens critical needs of public institutions.

To the placement of more than 20 President's Young Professionals Program - PYPP fellows at county government offices, where they serve their own communities and strengthen public services in collaboration with local leadership.

All our young professionals are united by one aspiration: a future where every young person has the opportunity to innovate public service delivery and drive meaningful change in governance.

Spotlighting the 700+ young leaders who make up the EPL network this month in the run up to on August 12.

Their passion for service brought them into our public service program in Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and Sierra Leone but it's their commitment to ethical leadership and public policy that have accelerated their impact across communities.

From recruitment, orientation, and training all the way to graduation, our EPL leaders receive wholistic support to build their technical expertise and confidence as leaders in governance. In post-fellowship meetings with Malawi's first cohort, revealed 93% of their placements aligned with career aspiration and 81% of supervisors noted they are making significant contributions at work.
