Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters - CCHI

Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters - CCHI CCHI offers NCCA-accredited performance-based certification for interpreters of all languages. Effective communication is crucial to quality healthcare.

Healthcare interpreters are a critical part of the equation. Healthcare interpreters demonstrate their professional knowledge, skills and abilities by becoming certified based on national standards. CCHI created and delivers the first and only national professional certification for healthcare interpreters which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The Certifica

tion Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) certification is setting the standard for the healthcare interpreting industry. Currently, CCHI offers two credentials – Certified Healthcare Interpreter™ (CHI™) and
Core Certification Healthcare Interpreter™ (CoreCHI™). All CCHI-credentialed interpreters enjoy the benefits of being listed in the online National Healthcare Interpreter Registry. An increasing number of healthcare providers and language service companies and organizations choose CCHI credentialed interpreters as their preferred means of ensuring language access. They join us to demonstrate their commitment to quality care and patient safety. Healthcare interpreters and providers choose CCHI-accredited continuing education programs. CCHI’s Continuing Education Accreditation ensures credibility and visibility for a training provider and their programs.

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month, aimed at creating a positive culture for organ, eye, and tissue donation to improve the quality of life of diverse communities.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network reports that racial and ethnic minorities account for almost 60 percent of individuals on the U.S. transplant list and 49 percent of those who have received organ transplants in 2022. Shared ethnicity is not a requirement for matching organ donors and recipients. Matches between donors and recipients of different ethnicities are quite common. However, having a more diverse donor registry gives racial and ethnic minorities on the transplant waiting list a better chance of finding a good donor match. The County of Ventura is hiring a Spanish Healthcare Interpreter!

From the job posting: We are seeking skilled individuals who are bilingual in English and Spanish to join our hospital's Language Access Program as a Healthcare Interpreter. Under general supervision, the Healthcare Interpreter facilitates clear and accurate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers by interpreting medical information in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner. This role supports patient understanding of diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, and hospital policies, while helping providers deliver equitable care. The interpreter may also assist with referrals and connect patients to hospital and community-based programs, particularly for individuals who are culturally, economically, physically, or mentally disadvantaged.

Trilingual candidates - especially those who speak Indigenous languages such as Mixteco (pay differential offered) - are highly preferred due to the diverse language needs of our patient population.

As the leaves begin to turn and crisp sweater weather sets in, there is nothing better than curling up with a mug of warm cider and a brilliant book. For our autumn pick, we are turning our focus to the intersection of tech, ethics, and justice with Joy Buolamwini’s powerful memoir, Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What Is Human in a World of Machines.

Blending deeply personal storytelling with urgent investigative research, Dr. Buolamwini highlights the hidden costs of automated systems on our privacy and civil rights, making it an essential, eye-opening guide as we navigate an increasingly digital world together.
