Scaling Climate-Smart Agriculture in Kakuma
In one of the world's most complex environments, we are proving that sustainability and self-reliance go hand-in-hand. Our solar-irrigated farming initiatives in Kakuma are moving beyond emergency aid toward sustainable development. By transitioning from rain-fed subsistence to solar-powered precision, we are delivering a triple-bottom-line impact:
Environmental Stewardship: By utilizing high-efficiency, zero-emission irrigation, we have reduced water waste by 80% and eliminated the carbon footprint associated with traditional diesel pumps.
Strengthened Food Security: Consistent, year-round production provides refugee and host community households with direct access to nutrient-dense crops, drastically reducing rates of malnutrition.
Economic Empowerment: We are transforming "beneficiaries" into agri-preneurs. With some farmer groups generating upwards of $4,000 per harvest cycle, this project creates a viable pathway for household income and local market growth. UNHCR KENYA
