Thank you Director Noone and Asst Director Alvarez for organizing a great activity and venue for today’s meeting! We need the rain but hopefully the boat trip activity will be reschuled. Learning about the Anacostia River and the Bladensburg Waterfront was lovely. Of course spending time together and planning activities is fun too!

National Garden Clubs: Who are we and where did we come from? We are a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to promote the love of gardening, floral design, and civic and environmental responsibility. But where did we start?
The idea to have a garden club came from Dr. Edwin Dorset Newton in Athens, Georgia in 1891, an Athens physician keen on horticulture. Twelve women met in the home of Mrs. Edwin King Lumpkin on a January day in 1891 to form the Ladies Garden Club of Athens. These women dedicated themselves to the study of horticulture and the exchange of plants and ideas for betterment of their community-much in line with what we are doing today!

Wishing Shirin Ghorbani much success! Thank you Capital Hill for sponsoring!
