The word "capitalism" is losing public support in the very country most associated with it.

Do noncompetes serve the public interest? Evidence increasingly suggests they do not.

They may even shape the economic fates of entire regions, like in the case of Silicon Valley vs. Boston's Route 128 corridor. Beyond limiting mobility, noncompetes suppress workers' bargaining power and wage growth. When employees cannot credibly threaten to leave, employers have little incentive to raise pay or improve conditions.

Noncompete agreements, once reserved for executives with unique access to trade secrets, have gone mainstream in America.

How do Head Start Pre-K regulations compare with state childcare regulations?

Archbridge Institute ranked Head Start as a separate entity or “state” in the State Childcare Regulations Index.

Here are the results:

In February 2026, the Archbridge Institute published its 2026 edition of the State Childcare Regulations Index. As a simple comparison, we have ranked how Head Start pre-kindergarten (pre-K) program regulations compare to state regulations. Head Start has different child-to-staff ratios depending on...

The economics of child care are the same in South Dakota as in Minnesota — yet parents in South Dakota spend less than half as much as their Minnesota counterparts on center care, writes Edward Timmons in the Duluth News Tribune.

In Archbridge Institute's State Childcare Regulations Index, Minnesota ranked as the 10th-most-restrictive state nationwide. Research suggests that lawmakers can shorten training without jeopardizing the quality of child care.

Child care operates in a “broken market,” or so goes the popular explanation for its high costs and low wages. But the economics of child care are...
