The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate welcomed two new novices during the Rite of Reception on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Novitiate in Godfrey, IL. Vicar Provincial of the Assumption Province (Canada), Fr. Marcin Serwin, OMI, and Novice Master, Fr. Salvador Gonzalez, OMI, received Mr. Francis Adams and Mr. Jose Carlos Dairo as they begin their novitiate year of formation. The Oblates of the region joined in prayer and support as these men entered into this important canonical stage of their vocational and formational journey.

For the next 50 weeks, these men will create community with the novitiate staff while attending classes on the history of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Oblate Constitutions and Rules, as well as other lessons that will aid their continued discernment to religious life, especially to a missionary way of life. Novices will also engage in ministry in the Godfrey, Alton and St. Louis areas to help shape their life perspective of outreach to the faithful.

Please pray for Francis and Jose Carlos!
Praised be Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate!

As the FIFA World Cup opens on June 11 across the United States, Mexico and Canada, a group of Dominican friars, sisters and lay leaders is calling on Catholics to celebrate the tournament while also paying attention to the people who may be left behind by it.

In a joint appeal published in May, Dominican justice and peace promoters from the three host countries welcomed the World Cup as "a moment for sport" and "an opportunity for our common humanity," while warning about human trafficking, displacement, economic inequality, migration barriers and the exploitation that often accompany mega-sporting events.

The statement, titled "Hosting the World, Protecting the Vulnerable," comes as North America prepares to host the largest World Cup in history, with 48 teams, 104 matches and millions of expected visitors.
