WERK for Peace

WERK for Peace WERK for Peace was created in response to the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando as a grassroots movement using dance to promote peace. We are here. We WERK.

On June 12, 2016, 49 individuals were massacred while dancing at Pulse Nightclub, a gay bar in Orlando Florida. 53 others were injured. We are a group of q***r activists who believe that the dance floor should be a safe space where all of us, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, can love and express ourselves. WERK for Peace is a q***r-based grassroots movement that uses dance to p

romote peace. The q***r community has always been at the forefront of promoting change, and from Stonewall to Pulse, dance is integral to our movement, and to our healing. And we will dance. But let's get real. We don't just dance.

You betta’ WERK.

WERK for Peace is a q***r & trans grassroots movement that uses all forms of dance to promote peace. Founded in response to the Pulse Nightclub shooting, WERK brings the dance floor into the streets to occupy space and assert that #WeAreHere and #WeWillDance.

Our bodies - our beautiful, magnificent, glamorous, loving, hip-shaking, head-thumping, fist-pumping, ass-twerking, LGBTQAI+ bodies - matter. Yet every day, political and social forces seek to define us, warp us, constrain us, and eliminate us. We won't have any of it.

Dance is healing and regenerative. It gives us space to connect with one another, to love each other, and to celebrate our existence. It has brought us together since the days of Stonewall, and continues to be a cornerstone of the q***r and trans community.

From the door steps of Mike Pence, Ivanka Trump, Mitch McConnell, and others to the streets of every oppressed human, we occupy space and assert: We are here. We are q***r. We are trans. And we will dance.
