Elect Her – Campus Women Win, a collaboration between AAUW and Running Start, encourages and trains college women to run for student government on their campuses. Elect Her's centerpiece is a comprehensive daylong training program for students on participating campuses that educates college women about the need for more women in student government and guides them through the campaign process.

tl;dr: Get updates on Elect Her and stay in touch with us via Running Start. We'll delete this page soon to avoid confusion. 🧡
Hello everyone!

You probably noticed that this page is no longer active. As you may know, Running Start took over full ownership of Elect Her in the fall of 2016. We loved developing the program with AAUW and working with them to run it. In 2016, we came to a mutual decision to move it fully over to Running Start. (We all still work in the same building--we're huge fans of their work!)

You can best keep up with Elect Her by visiting our page (Running Start) as well as our Twitter (twitter.com/runningstart), Instagram (instagram.com/runningstart), and website (www.runningstart.org). And of course, use (and maybe include or tag us) for YOUR posts about the program.

We'll leave this post up for a little while (maybe a week or so) and then delete this page to avoid any further confusion.

Best,
The Running Start Team

P.S. Here's a photo we took for our upcoming new website of Elect Her alum Allyson Carpenter, who ran for public office after attending Elect Her. She became the youngest-ever elected official in DC!

Three ideas for how the system can work better for women:

The nation may soon wake up to its first-ever woman president and most-ever women senators, but down ballot, the news is not good for women in elected office. At least 44 governors will be men next year, and the U.S rank among all nations for the representation of women has declined from 44th in 199...

If Black women really wield this incredible electoral power, we need to take it a step further.

Today is Election Day--Sandra Day O'Connor says VOTE!

The first female Supreme Court justice says if American women want to wield political power, they must show up to the polls in November.

"Chances are you know what needs to be fixed. So the next step is believing that you're someone capable of doing the fixing — and if your already full life is any indication, you absolutely are."

In an exhausting election season like this, there's only one thing to do: Get involved. You can make politics what it needs to be, and it's easier than you think.

"When women run for office, they should be compassionate and competent, strong (but not tough) and above all, likable. They can be funny — sort of — and they have to be smart, but they can’t take all of the credit for their work."

While we're past the point of asking where a woman's children are, women in politics say we're not at parity — yet.

"There’s a long tradition of politics clashing spectacularly with perceived gender norms around election time, and the stakes often seem highest when women are about to make history."

Much of the imagery that circulated in the early 20th century made fun of suffragists.

“I honestly hadn’t considered anything like that until someone called and asked. That’s what it took, and that’s what it takes for women: calling and encouragement.”

The main reason women are so underrepresented at every level of politics is that they don’t run in the first place.
