“I think this is quite hard, even for politicians who are fundamentally pro-US, that want to make this moment work. Even if we can resolve this quickly, we are doing damage in terms of what the Canadian public thinks of us, and that’s going to make it harder for any politician, even a really good one, to figure out how to get us back on track.”

Tune in to American Leadership Initiative’s latest webinar: USMCA & U.S. Relations with Mexico and Canada, featuring Representative of Arizona’s 4th District Greg Stanton, Professor at the London School of Economics Vanessa Rubio Marquez, the Canada Institute Program Director Christopher Sands, and moderated by Senior Counselor at McLarty Associates Kellie Meiman Hock. Together, they discuss the Trump administration’s recent executive order to impose a 25% tariff on imports of automobiles and some automobile parts, among others, and how they will impact diplomatic relations and future trade negotiations in North America.

This March marks five years since the World Health Organization’s declaration of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. Despite their high cost, the US’s border restrictions with Canada and Mexico were among the last of the country’s Covid-era policies to end. What lessons can we draw about border management from that crisis?

Join us next Monday, March 24, from 10:00–11:00 AM EDT for a discussion with Western Washington University’s Director of the Border Policy Research Center Laurie Trautman, Professor of US-Canada Economic Relations Edward Alden, and author and journalist Molly O’Toole about the future of borders and public health in North America.
