IJE Africa

TARGET POPULATION

IJE’s target population is economically disadvantaged youth (ages 10 - 18 and young adults (ages 19 – 30) in the Washington Metropolitan Area and in Africa (Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo) who are culturally diverse, regardless of race, color, national, or ethnic origin. We are dedicated to assisting the needs of t

his group to improve their quality of life and the community at large. We aim to provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate programming to each demographic. NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Many teenagers, college students, and young adults are engaging in premarital s*x at an alarming rate. Consequently, STDS and HIV/AIDS have reached epidemic
proportion, and teenagers, college students, and young adults are suffering physically, spiritually, financially and emotionally. Teenage pregnancy has skyrocketed, resulting in single parenthood, malnutrition due to poor parenting skills, and irresponsibility. The victims of these ills are spiritually, mentally, and emotionally scarred. Many people are suffering from hypertension, diabetes, and other ailments. Also, in Africa, children under the age of five die each day from preventable conditions that are related to extreme poverty, poor nutrition, polluted water, and lack of adequate healthcare. The main problems are poverty, malnutrition, sickness/disease, and illiteracy. Health and Wellness

• Providing the community with basic health related information concerning vaccinations, and disease prevention
• Organizing free medical consultation campaigns;
• Providing health education workshops in African villages located in Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo
• Providing a network of global resources and collaborative partnerships with private businesses, hospitals, and healthcare organizations to raise funds for economically disadvantaged men, women, and children and residents of African communities. IJE will offer Health and Wellness workshops regarding health promotion and wellness regarding cancer, diabetes management, stress management, hypertension, and learning how to gain control of your health through good nutrition and increased physical activity. Entrepreneurship Training

Will provide classes such as:

• The Basics of Starting a Business

• How to Market Your Business

Vocational Training

• The Meaning of Home Economics
• Concept of Home Economics
• Principles of Home Economics

Abstinence Workshopsl:

• Educate economically disadvantaged youth and young adults about s*xually transmitted diseases (STD) awareness, especially HIV/AIDS, and provide them with useful steps to take in order to help prevent the contact of such s*xually transmitted diseases through s*xual abstinence.

• Give clear definition of s*xual abstinence, which consists of the following: “Abstinence means voluntarily choosing not to engage in s*xual activity until marriage. Sexual activity refers to any type of ge***al contact or stimulation between two persons including but not limited to, s*xual intercourse.”

• Empower youth and young adults with the importance of goal-setting, dream-forecasting, and critical thinking as a means of promoting s*xual abstinence. To foster the development of healthy choices, personal character, and healthy relationships that are void of s*xual involvement. Self-Empowerment Seminars will be held once a month at various churches, schools, and nonprofit and secular venues. IJE will also provide Character Building workshops and group discussions to deal with character issues that surround youth ad young adults such as:

• Decision-making
• Character Building
• Mentoring
• Self-worth and Confidence
• Setting and Reaching Goals
• Thinking Like A Winner
• Letting Go of the Past
• Developing Healthy Relationships

Life is a performance, and the paths youth and young adults choose, will
determine the amount of problems they will experience. One of the most challenging tasks for women and children, is learning healthy decision-making skills and gaining knowledge of the opportunities available for their pursuit.
