We’re closing out DC Systems 101 with a policy unique to the District: the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (T**A).

T**A gives tenants important rights when their rental housing is being sold, creating opportunities for tenants to have a say in what happens to their homes.

It can also be an important tool for affordable housing preservation, creating pathways for tenants, affordable housing developers, and other partners to work together to preserve affordability and prevent displacement.

Affordable housing isn’t just about creating homes. It’s also about making sure people can afford to live in them.

The Local Rent Supplement Program (LRSP) is DC’s locally funded rental assistance program, helping close the gap between what residents can afford and the cost of housing.

Through tenant-based and project-based assistance, LRSP supports individual households while also helping make deeply affordable housing possible at the building level.

Today’s Housing Summit is taking a closer look at the systems that shape affordable housing in DC, so we’re doing the same with DC Systems 101.

First up: the Housing Production Trust Fund (HPTF), one of DC’s primary tools for creating and preserving affordable housing.

HPTF provides critical financing for affordable housing development and preservation, helping make projects possible that might not otherwise move forward. And its impact extends beyond the dollars in the fund: every $1 invested through HPTF helps leverage another $2.50 in private and federal financing.
