As members of the NSCDA prepare to visit Arlington National Cemetery during the Sixty-sixth Biennial Council, National Historian Meg Beasley reflects on the history of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Society’s connection to its creation.

From advocating for the memorial to contributing to its completion and care, the Dames helped honor the unidentified American service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. On October 17, National President Mary Mundy will continue that legacy by laying a wreath at the Tomb following the Changing of the Guard.

Check out September's edition of News Across the Nation to learn more about this meaningful chapter in NSCDA history.

History provided a meaningful backdrop as new American citizens took the Oath of Allegiance at the historic William Paca House in Annapolis. 🇺🇸

NSCDA-MD President Nancy McGee and Annapolis Town & Country Chair Amy Reese attended the July 3 ceremony, which included excerpts from the Declaration of Independence presented by historical interpreters portraying William Paca and fellow Maryland signers.

The ceremony also featured the Annapolis High School NJROTC Color Guard and Youth Chorus of Annapolis before concluding with “America the Beautiful.”

Congratulations to our newest American citizens!

A summer evening inspired by history! ✨

On August 9, the Indiana Dames gathered at the historic Woodstock Club for an evening celebrating the Harrison family legacy and the Indiana Society’s founding president, Mary Harrison McKee.

Guests enjoyed Harrison family-themed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music from the 1920s and ’30s, and an opportunity to connect with the Society’s own history.

President Mary Bennett also shared her portrait of Lucy Fitzhugh Redd, a founding member of the Indiana Society and Bennett’s ancestor.

A wonderful example of history, hospitality, and connection coming together.

Forty new citizens. Twenty-seven countries. One meaningful celebration. 🇺🇸

On August 21, 40 candidates from 27 countries took the Oath of Renunciation and Allegiance during a naturalization ceremony in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Dames were honored to help welcome these new Americans. On behalf of the Society, the Patriotic Service Chairman greeted each new citizen with a handshake and small gift in recognition of this important milestone.

Congratulations and welcome!

Celebrating 250 years of American history at Plum Grove!

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Iowa Dames brought a patriotic addition to Plum Grove Historic Home 1844 in Iowa City: a period-appropriate replica of the American flag.

After securing a flagpole and the necessary permissions, the flag was raised in time for Plum Grove’s July 4th celebration, welcoming the community to gather, reflect on our nation’s history, and celebrate this historic milestone.
