After the 2016 election, we saw an explosion in the public’s desire to get involved in political and progressive work. As this movement grew, a few professional organizers got together and realized that we had something to offer this new, activated public. Rising Organizers works for a stronger, more effective progressive movement. We seek to strengthen the progressive cause by teaching organizing strategy and skills, and developing new leaders.

That’s why we’re hosting an info session about about our Community Organizing Fellowship on September 2nd, led by and for for DC Natives at the Benning Neighborhood Library. You’ll learn about our free community organizing fellowship from other DC natives who have participated in the program. They’ll share their stories and experiences with Rising Organizers and even give you some insider tips on applying to the program.

We’re excited to announce that applications for our Fall 2026 Community Organizing Fellowship are officially open! Applications are due Friday, September 4 at 11:59 PM ET. Learn more and apply using the link in our bio or at risingorganizers.org.

In 2017, when Vivian entered the fellowship, she knew she cared about a lot of different issues, but she also didn’t feel very effective in doing anything about those issues. But today, Vivian is the Executive Director of Asian Americans United, which organizes and empowers Asian Americans—and where she recently beat back corporate interests trying to take over Philadelphia’s Chinatown. Vivian kept families in their homes and legacy small businesses alive, all because she knew how to organize.
It’s time you learned to organize too.

Our free, nine-session fellowship brings together 20–25 passionate rising organizers from across the DMV area and equips them with the tools, knowledge and skills to create the change our communities deserve.

Fellows receive intensive one on one coaching from experienced organizers and learn effective strategies for social change, from building meaningful relationships and developing achievable goals to learning, step by step, how to take action on the issues they care about.This fellowship is open to all, and is particularly intended for those who have little to no organizing experience.
