Rising Organizers Rising Organizers works for a stronger, more effective progressive movement through mentorship and tr Welcome! So we founded Rising Organizers.

After the 2016 election, we saw an explosion in the public’s desire to get involved in political and progressive work. As this movement grew, a few professional organizers got together and realized that we had something to offer this new, activated public. Rising Organizers works for a stronger, more effective progressive movement. We seek to strengthen the progressive cause by teaching organizing strategy and skills, and developing new leaders.

On Saturday, hundreds of people came together at UDC for the Second Annual DC Community Organizing Festival. Whether you were in the room with us or rooting from afar, thank you for making it an unforgettable afternoon.

We hosted 30 different local organizations, bringing the vast DC grassroots ecosystem together for a day of community, organizing, and collective action. We had three organizing workshops, an expert panel, social justice collaging, mind-body meditation, solidarity salsa and a drumline performance that showcased the talents of some of DC’s Black youth—all in the span of just four hours.

We left the Festival with renewed joy and strategy, and we hope you did too. To win the rights and protection our communities need, we need skilled, organized leaders, and we’re honored to play our part in ensuring our communities have the training and connections they need to succeed. The stakes are too high for anything less.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us, to all the volunteers, to all the tabling partners and to the sponsors and partners who made the Festival such a success. Special thank you to our Community Champion sponsors, Sterling Speirn and Democracy Fund, & our Movement Leader sponsors, Southern Poverty Law Center.

The DC Community Organizing Festival is just 2 days away, and so we want to take a moment to thank the people, local businesses, and organizations who chose to invest in the future of organizing in the District.

We’re incredibly grateful for their support in making this year’s Festival possible. Each and every one of these contributions helps us create a free, welcoming space where people can meet local organizers, learn new skills, share a meal, make connections, and find their community.

Thank you to our generous sponsors, from the bottom of our organizer hearts. Don’t miss our expert panel, “Where Do We Go From Here? DC and the Future of American Democracy,” sponsored by Sterling Speirn, for a conversation about the fight for DC statehood and the role local organizing can play in building a more democratic future. Free DC is sponsoring our Kids Zone because organizing is for everyone, including busy parents. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Festival without lots of food, sponsored by our friends at Democracy Fund.

Get your free tickets today! Link in bio. We’re excited to announce free salsa dancing lessons at the DC Organizing Festival! We wanted to create a space to celebrate the cultures that make DC (and the United States) a vibrant, exciting place to live—even while antidemocratic forces insist some people simply don’t belong here.

There’s a lot of rhetoric right now about who belongs in this country and who doesn’t. Immigrants are being portrayed as a threat, and Latino communities in particular have been targeted by immigration enforcement at alarming rates. We see and recognize the pain of our neighbors and of our whole community.

That is why we’re hosting Solidarity Salsa with Andrey Reyes, a professional salsa dancer, who’s generously donating his skills and time to bring us joy and teach us some steps. Salsa starts at 3:30 PM but be sure to come earlier to meet and connect with 30 local organizations, all dedicated to making DC better for all of us.

Join us for free soul food and arepas, live music including a drumline performance, and more. You’ll be able to participate in different trainings and an expert panel where you’ll learn skills you can bring back to your community and your everyday life. We’ll have interactive activities like social justice collaging and mind-body meditation to stay grounded during uncertain times. There’s something for everyone, and we can’t wait to spend the afternoon in community with you.
