The Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (PPRP) is a federally funded initiative of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program. The project empowers EMS and fire-rescue agencies to improve their “pediatric readiness” or capability to care for acutely ill and injured children. The PPRP provides free and open-access tools and resources for improvement.

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the International Association of EMS Chiefs, we want to take a moment to extend our heartfelt gratitude and admiration for the extraordinary dedication, bravery, and compassion you demonstrate every day. Your unwavering commitment to providing critical care in the most challenging and unpredictable situations is nothing short of heroic.

In the face of emergencies, it is you who rushes in to deliver life-saving care with skill and composure. Whether its a motor vehicle accident, a medical emergency in a home, or a large scale disaster, your presence provides hope and comfort to those in their greatest time of need. Your ability to remain calm under pressure and make swift, life saving decisions is truly remarkable and profoundly impactful.

This week, we reflect on our humble beginnings in 1792 when Baron Dominique Jean Larrey, Surgeon in Chief to Napoleon's Imperial Guard, who began the process of triage to Major Jonathan Letterman who established the US Ambulance Corps in 1862, to the advent of modern EMS in 1966 with the publishing of Accidental Death and Disability: The Neglected Disease of Modern Society my the National Academies of Sciences. Many of our members worked to forge the future of EMS in the 1970's and 1980's, and today, each of you continue to tradition of innovation and service to the people we serve.

We not only honor your professional excellence but also recognize the personal sacrifices you make. The long hours, the missed family events, and the emotional and physical toll of our work are all significant. Yet, you continue to serve with resilience and a steadfast commitment to our communities. Your work is a vital part of our community healthcare continuum, and your contributions do not go unnoticed.

Thank you for being the lifeline to so many in need. Thank you for your compassion, your expertise, and your unwavering dedication to saving lives. This EMS week, we celebrate each of you and the invaluable role you play in our healthcare system and communities.

The IAEMSC is participating with the IAFC in conducting a study for the USFA on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the American Fire and EMS. The study will ultimately provide the foundation for a report on DEI in Fire and EMS in the United States. The data collected in this study will be evaluated to determine how critical workplace issues related to DEI such as harassment, bullying, leadership, recruitment, and retention impact the fire service and EMS; definitions of diversity, equity, and inclusion in Fire and EMS; and explore the cultural readiness for change. In addition, the final report will also provide information on any differences that may exist within geographical regions and/or levels of authority within the US.

Your assistance is requested:

• Forward the survey and link via your local, state and professional distribution lists.
• Encourage your colleagues to complete a survey. We need to promote broad representation of EMS in the study.

All responses to this study are 100% anonymous. Respondents will not be asked to provide any personal identification information and we do not collect any data that would trace responses back to any one individual or organization. Information provided in responses to this form will not be collected either about the respondent or their organization. The survey is open to fire & EMS providers at any level of their respective organization.

The IAEMSC calls upon every EMS system in America to urgently prioritize the implementation of prehospital blood transfusion programs. We cannot underestimate the life-saving potential that lies in ensuring that severely injured patients with hemorrhagic shock receive the appropriate and timely intervention of blood transfusion at the prehospital stage. This is a matter of justice, equality, and humanity - a duty to ensure that the right to life and optimal health is protected and preserved. We must work together, united by our common purpose to save lives and improve outcomes, to make prehospital blood transfusion a reality in every corner of our nation. In this era of rapid medical advancement, let us forge ahead with determination, channeling our collective efforts and resources into ensuring that every patient in need receives the gold-standard treatment that they deserve. The IAEMSC is committed to providing leadership, expertise, and resources to facilitate the widespread adoption of this essential practice. We stand ready to support every EMS system, blood bank, trauma surgeon, and paramedic in this critical endeavor. Let us work together to ensure that no life is lost due to a lack of timely access to prehospital blood transfusion.
