Midtown Youth Academy Boxing Gym & Afterschool Program - Promoting success through education and wellness through boxing for since 1977. Through the organization, Mr. Mr.

The Midtown Youth Academy (the β€œorganization”) was founded in 1977 by Eugene R. Hughes, a boxing trainer and drug abuse counselor, who was acutely aware of the conditions that often led youth of the District of the Columbia to become involved in drug addiction and crime. Hughes recruited volunteers to work with neighborhood youth to provide boxing lessons as a therapeutic recreational outlet and an after-school tutoring program in test preparation, arts and technology, entrepreneurship, and other skills. Hughes and the organization’s board members have been working on revitalizing the academy and its programs for the past three years. While doing so, the members realized it was in the best interest of the organization to leave its long time home at 2206 14th Street NW and continue the journey at 5332 Georgia Avenue NW. For over 45 years, the organization has served as a safe haven for thousands of inner city youth and neighbors. It was the dream of Mr. Hughes and still is the organization’s goal, for Midtown Youth Academy to live long and continue to stand strong as β€œA balance in the Community”. The current location opened on April 23, 2022 commemorating the founder's 85th birthday!

Recently, a serious vehicle accident occurred right in front of the Midtown Youth Academy building. We have since received word that a couple of the youth involved in the crash were injured, and our immediate thoughts, prayers, and deepest concerns are with them and their families for a full recovery.

While the incident totaled our coach’s car and damaged two staff vehicles, cars can be replaced, our youth cannot. This situation underscores just how high the stakes are and why we must work together as a community to wrap our arms around our young people.

To the youth in our neighborhood: Your lives are valuable, and your community cares about you.

We want to see you safe, healthy, and thriving. You have the potential to be a champion, whether that is here at Midtown or at any of the other wonderful youth programs in our city. We are rooting for your successful futures, and we want to help guide you toward safe, productive paths.

Let’s come together as a neighborhood to support, protect, and guide our kids.

πŸ‘‰ Let’s keep our youth safe and engaged. Midtown Youth Academy has open slots for after-school programming. Click the link in our bio to learn more and enroll your child today.

Built different. Driven by purpose. Driven by discipline. πŸ’ͺ🏼

Our champion movement never stops, and we are continuing this journey the only way we know how: through relentless hard work, unwavering dedication, and team spirit. πŸ’₯

True champions aren't just built on the canvas; they are forged through the daily choices they make when nobody is watching. Watching these athletes lock in reminds us that boxing is only half the battle. The real victory is who they become along the way.

Every round, every rep, and every drop of sweat represents resilience, discipline, accountability, and responsibility. We keep pushing forward, matching our big goals with even bigger efforts. πŸ“ˆ

Drop a πŸ₯Š in the comments to show some love to the squad!

πŸ₯Š Building champions inside and outside the ring is what we do at Midtown Youth Academy!

We are incredibly proud of our fighter, Nahum, for embodying the true spirit of a champion. He recently had his very first bout at the 19th Annual Cease Fire. Don't Smoke The Brothers & Sisters boxing event and cookout, hosted by Lime Lite boxing gym and DC Department of Parks and Recreation.

This powerful community event focuses on ceasing gun violence and honors every single competitor. By providing trophies to both the winner and the runner-up, the event highlights the champion spirit inside every boxer who steps into the ring.

At Midtown Youth Academy, we believe being a champion isn't just about winning. It is about the courage to try new things, the maturity to value both wins and defeats, and the resilience to never quit. Way to represent, Nahum! Congrats to them both. βœ¨οΈπŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏼

And that’s a wrap on an unforgettable five weeks of our Resilience camp at Midtown Youth Academy! πŸ₯ŠπŸ†βœ¨

We are so incredibly proud of how our youth challenged themselves, stepped out of their comfort zones, and grew together. From our youngest to our oldest campers, the bonds formed this summer have been amazing to watch.

Over the final three weeks, our days were packed with high-energy training and incredible community adventures: Boxing, Museums & Libraries, Swimming, and Dining Experiences.

⚾ The Grand Finale: We wrapped up our final week by heading out to the ballpark to cheer on the Washington Nationals! It was the perfect, home-run ending to an impactful summer of growth.

Thank you to all of our amazing campers, supportive families, and dedicated staff for making this season so special. Keep pushing, stay resilient, and we’ll see you back in the gym! πŸ’ͺ🌟

πŸ₯Š History in and out of the ring! πŸ₯Š

Our champions visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture πŸ™ŒπŸ»

We didn't just study the profound overall history of African Americans, we dove into the legacy of legendary boxers who fought for freedom both inside and outside the ropes. πŸ›οΈβœ¨

Our youth explored the powerful displays of icons like Muhammad Ali and Jack Johnson, discovering how they used their platforms to change the world.

We also uncovered the heavy history of boxing's origins in America, learning how enslaved people literally fought for their freedom.

Knowledge is power, and today our youth knocked it out of the park! 🧠πŸ’₯
