Join us on Weds, 10/21 at 2pmET! Every generation has a responsibility to prepare young people for the future they will inherit. Today, that responsibility is unlike anything we've faced before. Artificial intelligence is transforming work and learning, mental health challenges continue to rise, and the pace of technological and social change is accelerating.

At the same time, we know more than ever about how young people grow, learn, and thrive. The question is no longer whether we have the science. It's whether we're willing to organize our policies and systems around what we already know.

In our 10/21 virtual gathering, Philip Steigman will share the vision behind The Future of Thriving, a national initiative to build a shared policy agenda for children and young people from birth through age 25. This work seeks to translate decades of developmental research into the policies, investments, professional preparation, and community conditions that shape everyday life.

Participants will explore why this moment represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rethink how we prepare young people for the future and what it would take to make thriving the shared destination across education, health, philanthropy, business, and government - and the rest of the child-serving community.

Stacey spent 25 years in early childhood education. None of it prepared her for what came after adopting her daughter from foster care. It took nearly a decade to get a diagnosis: reactive attachment disorder, the result of early trauma that never appeared in the adoption paperwork.

The turning point came by accident, through an offhand conversation with a mental health consultant who told her: "She's experienced trauma. Putting her in time-out isn't going to work. She needs connection." Stacey's response says it all: "People aren't going to get by on luck. That's not something we can rely on."

Stacey Walter spent 25 years working in early childhood education. This experience did nothing to prepare her or her husband Mike for the struggles they would face after adopting their younger daughter from the foster care system.

"My door is always open" is not psychological safety. Plenty of people learned early that speaking up gets punished, ignored, or used against them later. Saying the door is open doesn't undo that history.

Trauma sensitivity expert Adriana Leigh named what actually builds trust: structured meetings, agendas set in advance, and real follow-through when someone raises a concern. Not a policy. A pattern people can count on.
