National Assembly of State Arts Agencies: NASAA NASAA is the nonpartisan membership organization that unites, represents and serves the nation's state and jurisdictional arts agencies.

NASAA's mission is to strengthen state arts agencies. The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization serving the nation's 56 state and jurisdictional arts councils. Arts and creativity strengthen America. They help people and places to thrive by growing our economy, fortifying our well-being, driving educational success and connecting us to each other. State arts agencies ensure that all communities—including rural regions and economically distressed areas—have access to these positive impacts of the arts. NASAA, in turn, strengthens state arts agencies, equipping them with tools they use to serve the public. We serve as a data clearinghouse and conduct research about public funding for the arts as well as the policies and programs of state arts agencies.

Our sponsors and supporters are vital partners in making our work possible, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support of NASAA Assembly 2026.

Their generosity helps make this gathering possible but their support goes far beyond Assembly. By investing in NASAA, our sponsors are also investing in the work of all 56 state and jurisdictional arts agencies and the communities they serve. Their support helps strengthen the field and advance the arts across the country.

To all of our Assembly 2026 sponsors and supporters: thank you for believing in this work, supporting our field and helping make this gathering possible!

The North Dakota Council on the Arts is turning poems into starting points and stories into roadmaps for what comes next for at-risk youth. The agency partners with the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Central Regional Education Association to bring poetry, storytelling and other arts experiences to young people at the Youth Correctional Center.

Through a week-long residency, participants find their voices, share their stories and make plans for the future.

The impact? Improved morale and fewer behavioral incidents among participants. Read more about the program in the NASAA newsletter 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 https://tinyurl.com/uh46eset

At Out of Hand, we've taken a close look at what it means to be an organization at the cross section of arts and impact. As a nonprofit theater in Atlanta, we've had to evolve to keep up with changing perspectives of the arts, federal funding, and the overall sustainability of our model.

Join our Founder and Artistic Director, Ariel Fristoe, in a conversation with DeVos Institute's President Brett Egan to explore the realities and the future of nonprofit theater in America.

The event takes places online from 3-5pm EST on Tuesday Sept. 29.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts partnered with youth justice, child welfare and community partners to develop "The Transformative Power of Art for Systems-Impacted Youth in New Jersey", a practical guide for creating culturally responsive, healing-centered arts programs. The guide offers evidence-based practices and strategies for public agencies, arts organizations and teaching artists working with youth impacted by public systems, including juvenile justice.

It’s just one powerful example of how state arts agencies can help advance innovative, community-based approaches that put young people at the center.

The federal-state partnership matters. As Congress continues work on FY2027 appropriations, the National Endowment for the Arts remains an important part of a federal-state partnership that brings arts funding to communities across the country.

A new continuing resolution extends federal funding through December 11. It also temporarily prevents proposed changes to governmentwide grant rules that would give senior political appointees a greater role in reviewing discretionary federal grants.

There is more work ahead. While the measure provides temporary stability, it does not resolve the larger FY2027 funding debate. Visit NASAA’s federal and legislative updates for the latest information and advocacy resources. https://bit.ly/4xMv35X
