The garden has many small gifts that we may overlook daily. In the small gardens on Capitol Hill, see what August blooms catch your eye. What leaf speaks to you? It could be the texture, the variagation, the color of new growth emerging or the unique imperfections. Find a small vessel, a forgotten vase, or a recycled container - capture this gift from your garden...and share it.

This could be an interesting series to attend.

This could be an interesting series to attend.

Our executive director, Mark Hudson, will be presenting at The George Washington University's D.C. Mondays series. He will be discussing how Congressional Cemetery is commemorating the 250th anniversary through programming and special events such as the Cemetery Speaker Series and Soul Strolls. This program is virtual and free to attend, but registration is required.

Ginkgo Gardens has more than plants for the avid gardener. On a rainy day is a great time to dream and create. I purchased this great little paint set for days like this. After watering and wiping down a ll my houseplant leaves, I can take a moment and paint.
What creative concept are you bringing to life today? Thank goodness Gingko Gardens is my go to for all things gardening!

Too hot for you? Pop on over to the Miracle Theater for a 7:00 showing of The Gardener.
Need to do something while you are in the area?
Visit Gingko Gardens, Frager Hardware, or ReWild...

Or grab a bite to eat at one of the foodie places along the way like Ambar, Ted's Bulletin, Belga Cafe, Chiko, Matchbox, Jab We Met Indian Kitchen to name a few.

Or simply look at the yards along the side streets for inspiration.

Hope to see you there for a mid-week escape to see The Gardener!

The Capitol Hill Garden Club celebrated the end of our program season with a guided garden walk, focused on creating healthier ecosystems, led by Kristin Pearson, a DC Natives Block Captain. We ended with a pizza party at a favorite neighborhood hangout, Paccis!

Thanks to everyone for a great year of learning, volunteering, and socializing! Looking forward to seeing you all next fall! In the meantime, happy gardening! 🪴 🌱

I want to say Thank you to the Paint Branch Garden Club and Beth Alvarez for opening their garden gate to other District I Garden Clubs to join them on a Tour of Bunny Mellon's Oak Spring Garden and Upperville's Trinity Episcopal Church, a gift of Paul and Bunny Mellon to the community of Upperville.
For me, this was a dream come true. Passionate about historic gardens with homes and gardens that are within reach for the common gardener. It was original, not over the top, functional, and simply beautiful. All in attendance were pleased and had a very pleasant day.
Thank you Oak Springs for welcoming all of us and inspiring us to simply create gardens that bring us joy.
Here are a few photo's from a memorable day...

Gingko Gardens had a plant I simply KNEW I wanted in my garden again this year! Shopping is easy because as a commuter, I can pause on my way home for healthy plants, pots, soil amendments, candles, and even find convenient parking!
The houseplant selection is great and the customer service...always purrfect! (The people and the cat!)
I can save money by shopping on my way home. Now to get these plants potted up for season long gazing!
