Backup PNT systems are a real national priority. But it is not a blank check to hand one company spectrum rights others rely on. Congress and the FCC should support resilience without turning a policy need into a spectrum windfall.

NextNav’s proposal for the FCC to unilaterally grant it greater rights at the expense of other users of the 900 MHz band is not in the public interest.

New Yorkers deserve broadband policy grounded in consumer needs, not a predetermined case for government-owned networks. The NYC Public Advocate's report moves the goalposts, relies on unsupported claims, and offers recommendations the data does not justify.

New York City’s broadband report cherry-picks outdated data to make the case for government-owned networks, but its own evidence shows competition is strong and affordability challenges require targeted support—not more infrastructure mandates.

🚨 NEW: As Congress examines the SECURE Data Act and a federal privacy framework, our latest report analyzes the 21 state privacy laws already on the books and the lessons they offer for national legislation.

While most state laws share common ground on consumer rights, business obligations, and enforcement, the growing state-by-state privacy patchwork is costly for businesses and confusing for consumers.

Congress should enact a targeted federal privacy law that protects consumers, prevents real privacy harms, preempts inconsistent state laws, and minimizes burdens on innovation and productivity.

🔗 Read the new report from ITIF's Ash Johnson:

The United States’ patchwork approach to privacy is unworkable in the long term. But that patchwork is already here, and Congress can learn from the policies states have implemented to craft a national data privacy framework.

🚨 NEW: AI systems are becoming more personalized, context-aware, & capable of remembering user preferences

But as AI assistants grow more capable, policymakers face a key question:

How do you govern personalization without undermining the features consumers value?

As President Daniel Castro explains in his latest report, policymakers should target harmful outcomes like fraud & deception—not restrict core AI capabilities such as memory, learning, & inference.

🔗 Read the report:

As new technologies such as AI expand both user-directed and provider-driven personalization capabilities in digital systems, policymakers should ensure that personalization strengthens transparency, accountability, and user control rather than constrain its development.

Legacy phone-era subsidies are holding back an all-IP future.

The FCC should end intercarrier compensation. Permanently. Then, let providers compete on market prices while supporting low-income households directly.

Untangling and eliminating High-Cost Fund programs should be a central goal of the Federal Communications Commission’s efforts to reform and recalibrate USF to match technological and economic realities.

Advanced geothermal isn’t a silver bullet, but it could be a serious new addition to America’s energy mix.

Fervo has helped prove the concept. Now the challenge is scale: cutting costs, easing project risk, and building the strategy needed to make geothermal commercially viable.

It was clear at that we're moving from chatbots to agentic and physical . But Daniel Castro's big takeaway for policymakers is that different countries will adopt AI at different speeds based on digital regulations, energy policy, labor concerns, and attitudes toward risk.
