Junior Achievement of Greater Washington

Junior Achievement of Greater Washington JA of Greater Washington is changing the game for our region's youth with relevant, experiential education for the real world.

JA is a non-profit organization that brings together school systems, business leaders and trained volunteer mentors to provide equal access to the tools, people and experiences all youth need to be 100% prepared for real life in the real world.

For decades, the promise was simple: each generation would do better than the one before it.

That promise is no longer guaranteed. Economic mobility has declined. Workforce pathways have shifted. And the path from middle school to a stable, choice-filled adulthood is harder to navigate.

Junior Achievement of Greater Washington exists to change that trajectory.

By building confidence, capability, and competence in students, we are creating the conditions for economic mobility to be ensured rather than left to chance.

Generational change starts with the generation that is learning right now.

Build it with us.

volunteers brought real-world guidance to students at Junior Achievement Finance Park and 3DE by Junior Achievement.

Amazon Program Manager Sejal Dhanani said it best:

"I enjoy being with the kids and having the opportunity to share my knowledge with them. It really helps that the students come in with prior knowledge and education to help with the experience and we can then help them further that knowledge."

Thank you, Amazon, for investing in the next generation of Greater Washington.

The economy is changing, career paths are evolving, and financial decisions are more complex than they were just a decade ago. The competencies a student needs to navigate the next twenty years will look different than what was needed in the past.

That is why Junior Achievement Finance Park is evolving with those changes.

Coming this fall: Junior Achievement Finance Park — the next-generation evolution of how we prepare students for a changing economy. The experience will deepen career pathway integration and immerse students in even more real-world decision-making, building on a foundation that already serves nearly 40,000 students each year across Greater Washington.

This is the next step in our work to prepare students for what’s next.

Stay tuned.

As the school year wraps across Greater Washington, students are walking out of classrooms with more than report cards.

They are walking out with practical knowledge and experience.

Across the region this year, nearly 40,000 students stepped into Junior Achievement Finance Park and made real financial decisions. 3DE by Junior Achievement students at five high schools pitched strategies solving real business challenges. Volunteers from across the region sat shoulder to shoulder with students and coached them through the moments that matter.

That experience compounds over time. The student who learned to budget at Junior Achievement Finance Park carries that competency into every paycheck, and the 3DE by Junior Achievement student who learned to think like a consultant carries that mindset into every role they take in the future.

This is what economic mobility looks like when it starts early.

Our volunteers shape what is possible for every student.

When professionals step into Junior Achievement Finance Park or a 3DE by Junior Achievement classroom and share what their career actually looks like, students start to see themselves in new roles. They see how today’s choices map to the work and life of an adult.

Partnership drives mobility. Your experience can shape what comes next for a student in Greater Washington.

Inside Junior Achievement Finance Park, students learn to ask better questions.

That is what a 7th grade Social Studies teacher from Eastern Middle School noticed about her students after three weeks of in-class learning culminated in a visit to Junior Achievement Finance Park where students test their knowledge

“They never even thought about their future. They don’t look past what is happening right now… they want to know how to do things better.”

That is the shift career-connected learning is designed to create. It’s helping students to see the throughline between school, work, and the life they want to build.

When teachers see this transformation happen in real time, the case for investment becomes clear.
