Every day at Children of Mine Youth Center, 30 young people walk through our doors looking for more than just a program; they are looking for a place where they feel safe, supported, and inspired.

Here, they receive hot meals prepared daily by a dedicated team, explore creativity through art classes twice a week, and learn the rhythms and history of African drumming every Monday afternoon.

Our youth also experience meaningful cultural opportunities that help them see themselves reflected in history, culture, and possibility. This year alone, our students visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture, attended movies and local art shows, and traveled to the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum during Black History Month. These experiences help expand their understanding of the world and their place within it.

Our program is rooted in culture, care, and community — and it exists because people like you believe our children deserve the very best opportunities to grow and succeed.

As we prepare for the summer months, we are working to raise $20,000 to continue providing a safe and enriching environment for our youth while school is out.

Summer can be a critical time for young people. With your support, we can ensure our children remain active, engaged, and surrounded by mentors and positive opportunities during the months ahead.

If you are able, we invite you to support this effort and help us continue this important work. You can also help by sharing this message with friends, family, or colleagues who believe in investing in our children and strengthening our community.

Ways you can support our youth

- $100 helps provide program supplies for our students

- $500 supports arts, cultural programming, and activities

- $1,000 helps provide daily meals (snack and dinner)

Together, we can continue creating a place where our youth feel valued, supported, and empowered for success.

With gratitude,

Marcus Ponder

This holiday season, you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the young people at the Children of Mine Center. Every child — ages 4 to 18 — deserves to feel valued, supported, and remembered during this special time of year. We invite you to send a new gift—gift cards, toiletry boxes, warm socks, coats, clothing of any kind, or anything that brings comfort and joy.

Physical donations can be brought to the Center (2263 Mt View Pl SE, Washington, DC 20020) between 3:00 PM–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday (except Wednesday).

Your kindness will brighten a child’s season and remind them that their community cares deeply about them. If you prefer, you can also give directly to the Center to support our ongoing mission. Every gift, large or small, brings warmth and hope to a child’s holiday.

Dear Friends of Children of Mine,

The Children of Mine Center has been a haven in the community for more than 40 years—a place where children can be children, free from the weight of the world. A place where adults can ask for support without judgment. And a place where donors like you know that every single dollar helps sustain a legacy rooted in love, dedication, and service.

Mrs. Hawkins often reminded us, “Many hands make less work.” It’s because of those many hands—volunteers, supporters, neighbors, and families—that the Center has stood strong for decades. And it’s because of your generosity that we’ve been able to hold onto our values and ensure that no child or family is ever turned away.

This year marks a new chapter of growth for Children of Mine. Since reopening our Youth Enrichment Program, our enrollment has nearly reached capacity, our students are benefitting from renewed programming, and our Center is once again buzzing with the energy and joy that has always defined us.

As we step into this season of giving, we ask that you keep our children at the heart of your generosity this Giving Tuesday. Your support ensures that our programs remain free of charge, that families receive the resources they need, and that the legacy of Hannah Hawkins continues to live on in every young person who walks through our doors.

Thank you for being part of this story—for showing up, for giving, and for believing in our mission. Together, we are building something that will last for generations.
