International Biometric Society Devoted to the Development and Application of Statistical and Mathematical Theory and Methods in the Biosciences.

The Society welcomes as members statisticians, mathematicians, biological scientists, and others devoted to interdisciplinary efforts in advancing the collection and interpretation of information in the biosciences. The Society publishes two journals, Biometrics, reporting communications consistent with the Society's mission, and, jointly with the American Statistical Association, the Journal of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics.

By Wednesday of IBC2026, conference attendees were reconnecting with old colleagues and friends, conversing with leaders and IBS members, and exchanging notes with fellow attendees about the research presented in the 160 scientific sessions.

During this week's "IBC Memories" post, we're celebrating all the personal relationships forged during the conference. The International Biometric Conference goes beyond traditional educational programming, offering special city tours and social events that encourage attendees to explore Seoul, learn about Korean history and culture, and embrace their "inner emperors." We continue our "IBC Memories" series today, focusing on Day 2 of IBC2026.

On Tuesday of the International Biometric Conference, we celebrated our major awardees, including Raul Macchiavelli, PhD, Dean and Director of the College of Agricultural Sciences at the Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto de Mayaguez, who was named an Honorary Life Member of IBS in recognition of his 40+ year-long career, exemplifying the IBS values and mission.

We also recognized the 2026 recipients of the Rob Kempton Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Biometry in the Developing World:

• Tobias Chirwa, Head of the School of Public Health of the Wits - University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa

• Xiaohua (Andrew) Zhou, Chair and Professor of Biostatistics at Peking University in China

• Ziv Shkedy, Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Universiteit Hasselt in Belgium

And, of course, we can't forget our very own Outgoing President Iris Pigeot, who was recognized for her exceptional leadership. Congratulations to all!

Today, our "IBC Memories" focus on Day 1 of IBC2026, which attendance figures confirm as one of our highest-attended IBS conferences ever. Our International Biometric Conference Monday lineup celebrated the vibrant Korean culture of our host city and kicked off a program of more than 160 scientific sessions.

Before we filled our agendas completely, we took a few moments to thank the volunteers and individuals who helped make this IBC possible, including those photographed here. Special thanks to our Organizing President Iris Pigeot, International Program Committee Chair Frank Bretz, and Local Organizing Committee Co-Chairs Sohee Park and Ho Kim. We'd also like to thank the performers from 중앙대학교(Chung Ang University, CAU) in Seoul and Kee-Hoon Kang, President of 한국외국어대학교 (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), who officially welcomed delegates to Seoul. Lastly, Alan Agresti, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Statistics from the University of Florida, gave an engaging Keynote lecture. Monday evening featured a special poster reception, along with an off-site excursion for young statisticians.

Thank you to everyone who made the 33rd International Biometric Conference in Seoul an unforgettable experience!

Over five inspiring days, statisticians, mathematicians, researchers, and more came together from around the world to exchange ideas, showcase innovative research, build new partnerships, and advance the biosciences. From thought-provoking scientific sessions and engaging poster presentations to networking events and celebrations of our global community, IBC2026 demonstrated the power of collaboration in moving our field forward.

During the IBC2026 Closing Ceremony, we recognized excellence in our profession. Congratulations to Fernanda Lang Schumacher from The Ohio State University (U.S.), recipient of the 2026 IBS/Caucus for Women in Statistics and Data Science Florence Nightingale Award, which recognizes exceptional scholarship and service. There is so much happening during the 33rd International Biometric Conference.

Already, attendees have enjoyed an Opening General Session and Presidential Keynote by Dr. Alan Agresti, the Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Statistics at the University of Florida; special sessions, invited sessions, contributed sessions, poster sessions, and governance meetings; networking events; and a Young Statisticians Reception.
