"We will never leave this land, no matter what. It is a vow we made to our paramount chief."

In Vunisavisavi, Fiji, rising seas have swallowed homes, erased plantations, and reshaped a coastline that a community has called home for centuries. But they stay, bound by a promise older than the storm.

IOM works alongside Pacific governments and communities to plan for dignified mobility, strengthen disaster preparedness, and ensure that Pacific voices lead the global call for climate action.

In Doolow, Somalia, families displaced by drought are trading plastic shelters for mudbrick homes: cooler, stronger, and made with local materials by local hands.

"They give us a sense of stability and remind us that we have a place to call home." — Bisharo, mother of five

IOM is partnering with communities across Somalia to replace temporary shelters with climate-adaptive housing that restores dignity and builds long-term resilience.

A tomato squeezed into the soil. Dozens of seeds. A small act of faith that became a garden.

Mohammad lost his leg during the war in Gaza. Displaced, unable to access aid, he found another way to feed his family, growing vegetables in the rubble, making and selling sweets, refusing to give up.

Like the olive trees Gaza is known for, he remains rooted.

IOM’s Needs and Population Monitoring programme tracks displacement across Gaza, helping aid reach the families who need it most. Nearly 830,000 displacement movements recorded since October 2025. Behind every number, a story like Mohammad’s.

Tucked into the mountains of southern Poland, a small residential centre is offering something many displaced families struggle to find: time. Time to learn the language. Find work. Heal. Get back on their feet.

Tatiana arrived from with her daughter, mother, and sister after the conflict began. Her husband remains on active duty. Today, she speaks Polish, works at a local supermarket, and her daughter is one of the best students in her school.

"Centres like this aren't only needed at the beginning. Many families need time to get back on their feet, find work, learn the language, and heal. These things take time."

With support from IOM, the facility received critical upgrades: clean water, heating, and medical access, so families like Tatiana's have the stability to rebuild.

120 million people displaced. That's roughly one-third of the entire United States population, forced to leave home.

The scale is hard to grasp.
The need is real.
And IOM is on the ground in 175+ countries working to help those communities reach safety and stability.

"When my father left, I was in first grade. Now I'm in fifth."

That's how Tareq measures the years his family spent apart.

His father Adam left Jordan for Germany, hoping to build a safer future. His mother Rana stayed behind with their two boys, navigating camps, paperwork, and years of uncertainty.

In May 2025, the family reunited at an airport in Germany. IOM's Family Assistance Programme helped make that reunion possible. Adam says: "It wasn't until I saw them in front of me that I finally felt whole again."
