This week in Haitian news, security operations continued across the country as authorities prepared for the upcoming elections, while Haiti also saw encouraging moments in sports, international cooperation, and the arts.

The PNH and Gang Suppression Force continued operations in Torcel and other areas, while violence in Artibonite forced families to flee their homes. Authorities also announced new security measures for the upcoming electoral process, including plans to protect polling stations, electoral materials, and public gatherings.

There were also plenty of reasons for Haitian pride. Young Grenadiers advanced to the final of the CFU U-14 Challenge Series with a 6-1 victory over the Dominican Republic, while the senior national team welcomed new head coach David Badia.

Beyond sports, Haiti strengthened international partnerships in aviation, trade, emergency preparedness, and healthcare. Seventeen Haitians also received technician diplomas in orthotics and prosthetics following training supported by the Cuban Medical Brigade.

The week also brought moments of loss, as the arts community mourned celebrated sculptor Patrick Vilaire, while the iconic Iguana Café was destroyed by fire.

Happy Feel Good Friday! 💛

Today we’re celebrating the completion of our micro-business training with six incredible mothers in the KCH community: Cassandre, Marie, Linda, Nicole, Wislande, and Sandra!

Led by Gregor, the training provided practical tools and knowledge to help these mothers strengthen their businesses, manage finances, build customer relationships, and create greater financial stability for their families.

We are proud to celebrate this important step and excited to see how these women put their new skills into action for the betterment of their families and communities. Congratulations, ladies! 🇭🇹💛

This week in Haitian news, security concerns continued to affect communities across the country, while authorities worked to strengthen policing and move the long-awaited electoral process forward.

Recent violence affected communities near Port-au-Prince, healthcare services, and education, including the suspension of medical services at an MSF maternity center in Cité Soleil following renewed clashes. The PNH also continued operations and expanded its presence in strategic areas, including a new permanent base in Varreux.

On the political front, government officials called for renewed momentum toward elections, with $120 million allocated to support the process. At the same time, Haitian jurists raised concerns about the recently adopted electoral decree and its implications for the rule of law.

Despite the difficult headlines, there were also moments of Haitian pride. The Grenadiers' World Cup journey came to an end, but their performance inspired supporters and a new generation of athletes. Haitian writer Kettly Mars was named a finalist for the Caribbean and Americas Literature Prize, while Miss World Haiti, Marie Kemlyne Félix, prepared to represent Haiti on the international stage.

After seeing the success of Nephtalie's mother's small business, we were excited to launch a new pilot program that served to empower five mothers of current KCH students with the tools to achieve financial independence.

The program has provided practical business training in Haitian Creole, personalized mentorship, and the support needed to build sustainable micro-businesses. From managing finances to strengthening customer relationships, these mothers have gained the skills to create lasting opportunities for themselves and their families 🇭🇹

Did you know that Kids Connection Haiti's program in Haiti is entirely Haitian-led? 🇭🇹

Every member of our Haiti staff is a KCH alumnus or alumna who once participated in our programs. Today, they are giving back by creating new initiatives, leading workshops, and helping strengthen the program.

Their journeys are a testament to the lasting impact of education and opportunity. At KCH, we believe that as you move forward, it is important to reach back and help others along the way.

At KCH, growth happens both inside and outside the classroom! We're excited to highlight our digitization project, an initiative designed to preserve our students' records by transforming physical files into secure, organized digital archives. This project will improve information management, protect important records, and make them more accessible for years to come.

What makes this project even more special is the team behind it. Former IT students Kelly and Davidson, alongside current Administrative Sciences student Nephetalie, are leading this important work. Their dedication and skills are helping strengthen KCH while gaining valuable professional experience.

We're proud to see our students and alumni using their talents to help build an even stronger future for the KCH community. 🇭🇹

This week in Haitian news, Haiti took important steps toward its upcoming elections while communities continued to navigate security challenges and recovery efforts.

Government officials, electoral leaders, and international partners met to advance preparations for the 2026 elections, reaffirming their commitment to a transparent and credible electoral process. At the same time, the government launched the Return to the Neighborhoods initiative in Solino, an effort designed to help displaced families safely return home and rebuild their communities.

Security remained a concern in Port-au-Prince, with continued incidents highlighting the challenges many Haitians face each day. Meanwhile, the Haitian National Police welcomed new officers to strengthen public safety efforts across the country.

On the international stage, Haiti's Under-20 and senior Grenadiers continued representing the nation with pride, as supporters across Haiti and the diaspora look ahead to the next chapter of international competition.

In Haiti, where 70% of the population is under age 30, life skills and vocational training are vital to lower poverty and unemployment. Around 48% of the population is literate. Over 47% of young people in the labor market are jobless. KCH's Life Skills Workshops equip students with the practical and professional skills needed to succeed beyond the classroom.
