On March 5, 1946, Winston Churchill delivered one of the most consequential speeches of the 20th century at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Known today as the “Iron Curtain” speech, his address, The Sinews of Peace, helped define the emerging Cold War and reinforced the importance of the transatlantic alliance.

A rare, authentic admission ticket to this historic address, preserved in the archives of America’s National Churchill Museum, is the centerpiece of a special charity auction.

Presented in partnership with the International Churchill Society, this extraordinary opportunity celebrates Churchill’s enduring legacy and his historic relationship with America.

Proceeds will be shared equally between the two organizations, supporting educational programs that preserve Churchill’s legacy and explore the continuing significance of Churchill in America.

Conference guests had special access to the museum’s galleries.

Over the next two days, historians, authors, leaders, and Churchillians will explore the people, ideas, and relationships that connected Winston Churchill so deeply to America.

Tomorrow, Churchillians from across the United States, Britain, Canada, and beyond begin gathering for the 43rd International Churchill Conference.

Over three days we will explore Churchill’s American roots, the Founding Fathers, Washington and Lincoln, Eisenhower and Kennedy, the Holocaust, the Churchill Archives, the Special Relationship, leadership — and much more.
It all begins tomorrow.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13 — Teddy & Churchill

In December 1900, a 26-year-old Winston Churchill met Theodore Roosevelt over dinner in Albany.

This Friday in Philadelphia, that fascinating encounter returns to the stage.

Conference guests will see Teddy & Churchill, a special one-act theatrical presentation imagining the meeting of two enormous personalities before either had reached the heights for which history remembers them.

Cannot attend the whole conference? A limited Friday Teddy Ticket includes the full day of conference sessions, the play, and the evening reception and author signing at the Union League.

The Special Relationship

The phrase “special relationship” has become shorthand for the enduring partnership between Britain and the United States — a relationship Winston Churchill did so much to define and strengthen.

This Friday in Philadelphia, British Ambassador Sir Christian Turner will address that relationship during a special conference presentation, introduced by Randolph Churchill.

As America marks its 250th anniversary, the conversation could hardly be more timely.

Even Winston Churchill, a leader remembered for extraordinary courage and resilience, experienced periods of profound emotional darkness.

In 1915, following the disastrous Gallipoli campaign, Churchill discovered painting. What began as a pastime became a lifelong source of comfort, creativity, and renewal.

In Finest Hour, historian Sir David Cannadine explores how painting helped Churchill navigate personal disappointment, political setbacks, and the immense pressures of public life.

Churchill found that sometimes the greatest relief came not from words or action, but from the quiet concentration of a paintbrush.
