🐾 Happy National Dog Day!
Winston Churchill was well known for his love of animals, including his reddish-brown toy poodle, Rufus, who accompanied him almost everywhere—even on journeys between Chartwell and London. After Rufus died in 1947, Churchill welcomed another devoted poodle into the family: Rufus II.

Today, we celebrate the dogs who bring companionship, loyalty, and joy to our lives—including the four-legged friends who shared life with Sir Winston.

The son of American-born Jennie Jerome, Churchill drew inspiration from the American founding and forged relationships with American leaders that helped shape the twentieth century.

Statesman. Soldier. Writer. And painter.

This summer, more than 50 paintings by Winston Churchill have been brought together at London’s Wallace Collection for Winston Churchill: The Painter, the first major retrospective devoted to his art since his death.

From Mediterranean landscapes and Moroccan cityscapes to the gardens of Chartwell, the exhibition reveals the private pursuit that offered Churchill challenge, concentration, and respite throughout his extraordinary life.

The exhibition is on view through 29 November 2026 and was made possible in part through the support of the International Churchill Society.

What an extraordinary time at Hyde Park!

A very special thank you to our friends at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site for welcoming the International Churchill Society and helping make our visit so memorable.

The day included a special behind-the-scenes experience for our group, followed by a sold-out program with filmmaker Malcolm Venville, exploring Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the remarkable relationship between these two wartime leaders.

We are incredibly grateful to Malcolm, to everyone who joined us, and to the wonderful teams at Hyde Park who shared their time, expertise, and enthusiasm. It was a fitting setting to explore the history, friendship, and legacy that continue to connect Churchill, Roosevelt, Britain, and America.

Today the International Churchill Society is honored to gather at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum—where history comes alive in the place Roosevelt called home.

Hyde Park reminds us that the partnership between Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill was built not only in conference rooms, but through friendship, trust, and countless conversations that helped shape the Allied victory.
