Federal Planning Division APA

Federal Planning Division APA The Federal Planning Division (FPD) provides a forum for people involved in planning of federal properties located within the United States or overseas.

The Federal Planning Division provides a forum for people involved in the development and/or implementation of comprehensive planning and land management policies, techniques, and procedures for federal properties located within the United States and overseas. By focusing on planning and land management, the division's objective is to improve the quality of life for persons who live on, work on, a

nd/or use federal lands and facilities; and to protect and enhance the value of federal properties for their designated purposes. A secondary objective of the Division is to foster positive economic, environmental, and social relationships between federal lands and adjacent, non-federal communities and areas. Finally, the division supports and/or promotes all federal planning programs which provide technical and/or financial assistance to state, regional, and local communities in the United States, and to both US interests and national governments abroad. The division focuses on programs that protect and enhance those properties and improve the lives of the individuals who live on, work on, and/or use federal lands and facilities. The division hosts a website and a newsletter, Federal Planning Network. Any person or organization with an interest in federal planning may join the division. The division seeks a broad and diverse membership. Individuals or organizations who wish to support the Division's activities may receive all membership services upon payment of dues, but may not vote on any Division business unless they are paying members of APA. The membership of FPD is diverse, including employees of many U.S. federal agencies and contractors, planners from communities with federal installations, and several international members.

The Colorado Springs FPD cohort had a great time teaming up with to host a Colorado Springs on a beautiful spring day! We talked about some of the great and not-so-great elements we saw on the south side of downtown as we explored old and new development. Jane would have been so proud of our citizen scientists 🥲 Thanks to all who came out!

At the beginning of March, over 30 federal planners, mostly based in Europe, participated in a unique educational event as part of the SAME Europe Tri-Services Regional Summit in Frankfurt, Germany. Those lucky enough to participate were presented with an outstanding tour of the former “Pentagon of Europe” and current Westend Campus of Goethe University that included:

·         Concise history of the German and U.S. relationship post World War II.
·         Glimpse into General Eisenhower’s office in the I.G. Farben Building.
·         Thrilling ride on a paternoster elevator.
·         Walk-through of several new university buildings, including a library built around one of the old city walls.
·         Tour of a mass-wood timber modular and relocatable building – the Adorno Gymnasium.
·         Group lunch at the campus Mensa (cafeteria).

Planners also participated in several CM-eligible technical sessions during the summit.

Thanks all those who participated and a special shout-out to SAME for supporting this initiative to bring in-person planning training to Europe. We look forward to 2028 and look for more regional workshops around the world.
