June is the official beginning of the hurricane season in the Atlantic. 🌀

While this month is historically quieter than later in the season, an approaching El Niño could change the game this year. It is crucial to stay informed, stay safe, and be prepared for whatever the season brings.

A Quick Reminder from IEEE DataPort!

The final submission deadline for the 2026 IEEE MOVE Truck Data Science Challenge is June 1st!

This challenge brings together data science, AI, geospatial analytics, and public safety to address real-world disaster response and resilient network engineering problems using telemetry data collected by IEEE MOVE USA Trucks. Participants are tasked with identifying faulty towers and proposing efficient communication network layouts to support emergency response operations.

We are excited to see innovative solutions from participants around the world and how emerging technologies can help strengthen community resilience and public safety.

🚨 Attention IEEE MOVE Volunteers! 🚨

We are excited to announce our May 2026 MOVE USA Operations Training Opportunities! IEEE MOVE USA is offering a dynamic three-part Virtual Operations Class to prepare volunteers for MOVE truck deployment.

Who should attend?

Required: Existing drivers and crew members must attend.

Required: Anyone seeking to advance to a MOVE Truck Driver or Crew Member role must attend.

Encouraged: All MOVE volunteers are encouraged to join and learn more about the program!

Course Overview:

The course covers deployment expectations, truck equipment, and essential safety procedures.

Participants will learn the differences among the MOVE-1, MOVE-2, and MOVE-3 trucks.

You will gain a solid foundation in both the shared systems and the unique features of each vehicle.

Each of the three sessions is conducted virtually.

Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes to two hours.

📅 Schedule & Registration Links:

Day 1 Session: Tuesday, May 5, 8:00 – 9:30pm EDT. This session provides an overview of truck operations, power systems, network systems, and communications/radio systems. Register >> https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/551951

Day 2 Session: Tuesday, May 12, 8:00 – 9:30pm EDT. This session provides a detailed orientation on truck operations, maintenance, and power generation systems. Register >> https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/551952

Living with Intelligence: How AI, Sensing, and Robotics Are Shaping Everyday Life

What if the environments around us could actively support our health, safety, and daily routines? AI, sensing, and robotics are rapidly moving beyond labs into the spaces where we live and work transforming homes, campuses, and communities into intelligent, responsive ecosystems. Drawing on work from Kennesaw State University’s Prototype Living of Tomorrow (PLOT), a 25-acre living laboratory, this talk explores real-world applications including ambient and wearable sensing, wellness monitoring, and AI-driven robotic systems. It highlights both the measurable benefits and current limitations of these technologies, while addressing critical questions around privacy, autonomy, and trust. Attendees will gain a clear, practical view of how intelligent environments are being built today and what it means for tomorrow.
