NOTE THAT WAS PUBLISHED ON THE CHASQUI - Intern American Development Bank (IADB)
Remembering Pedro A. Bellini

Man from the llanos that he was, Pedro bid us farewell to the sound of the “cuatro and maracas….”His beloved music accompanied him to the last on a sunny day in February. Pedrito, as he was called by his co-workers at the Bank, was one of the friends and colleagues most beloved by those of us who had the honor and privilege to know him. Pedro was born in 1954 in San Fernando, Apure State, Venezuela, one of 10 children. At the age of 22, he left the llano to pursue his university education in the United States. He joined the IDB in 1980, working first in communications and then as an accounting officer. A first-rate professional, Pedro devoted himself to his career at the Bank, which lasted 25 years, until he could work no longer. Honest, upright, with solid principles and values, he was a man of his word. Simple, simpatico, confident, and a gentleman to the end, he had the gift of service, the gift of people and always worked with pride, helping others out with his knowledge and experience. With his clients at the Bank, he went not only the extra mile but even further, even when it meant more time and effort. His friendship and affability were legendary. Always a smile on his face, he would stop by the offices of his co-workers, if only for just a minute, to tell a joke, comment on politics, or say something about his family. Even when rushed, he always had time for those who sought his professional help. If one of his friends had a problem at work or personal problem, he knew he could count on him unconditionally. Pedro always had a word of encouragement to help them in their need. His family was his great love, and Adriana and his children, his pride and joy. As a husband and father he was great in the broadest sense of the word. He was also a devoted son, attentive to his parents and family in Venezuela. He was planning for the future of Gianni, who was about to begin his search for a college, and Fiorella, a tremendous athlete, whom, like Gianni, he accompanied whenever she played a match. The love in the Bellini home was (and still is) something to see. Throughout the struggle with his illness, this love was clear for all to see; the love and care that Adriana and his children lavished on him during this difficult trial were worthy homage to the wonderful home that Pedro and Adriana had built. During his illness, (glioblastoma multiforme, a primary brain tumor), Pedrito continued to behave as always--uncomplaining, thanking his friends and colleagues for their visits with a smile. Pedro attained all he wished for in life: a home filled with love, with beautiful children and a special companion; a job that gave him real satisfaction; and a unique emotional fulfillment. As both a man and a person, he was complete. His time was short, but he lived it to the fullest. And even though he leaves a gaping void, the memory of his love, his kindness, and his joy will light up the hearts of those of us who had the good fortune to know him. They say that the good die young…Pedro is the irrefutable proof of that. Farewell, machurucuto

Farewell, Pedrito! His friends and colleagues
