The DC Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 36, is saddened to share the Line-of-Duty Death of Battalion Fire Chief Keith T. Long.

Chief Long dedicated 38 years of service to the residents and visitors of Washington, DC. Before promoting to Chief, he proudly served as a member of Local 36.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Long’s family, friends, and all members of DC Fire and EMS during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Chief.

The Department regrets to announce the line-of-duty death of Battalion Fire Chief Keith T. Long, who passed away suddenly, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Battalion Chief Long was appointed to the Department on 12/19/1988. Battalion Fire Chief Long was currently serving as a Safety Battalion Chief at the time of his passing.

Battalion Fire Chief Long served the residents and visitors of the District for 38 years.
