Advocating, organizing, and building bridges between the diaspora and Syria. SAC was founded on November 20, 2005, in Burr Ridge, Illinois. The founding meeting was attended by representatives from Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and California. SAC’s president and Council of Representatives (COR) were elected during that meeting.

The final stop in this round of Civic Ready sessions brings us to the DMV.

From Ohio to Chicago, Detroit to Texas, New York/New Jersey to California and Florida, SAC’s Civic Ready series has carried one message across the country: our community is ready to learn, organize, and engage.

We’ve heard reminders that our voices matter. We’ve heard priorities named directly — safety, healthcare affordability, access, and local leadership. And we’ve seen what happens when Syrian Americans come together with purpose.

Now, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland close out this round.

SAC in New York | Part III: Beyond the UN 🇸🇾🇺🇸

As world leaders gathered for the UN General Assembly, Syrian Americans came together on the streets of New York to mark a significant moment for Syria.

As part of our presence during UNGA week, SAC helped organize a community rally, bringing together Syrian Americans for speeches, conversations, and reflections on Syria’s future.

The conversations reflected both the significance of this moment and the challenges and opportunities ahead. From U.S. policy toward Syria and the country’s progress since liberation to transitional justice, rebuilding, economic recovery, and investment, speakers and community members discussed what Syria needs in this next chapter and the role Syrian Americans can play in it.

While much of UNGA week unfolded inside meeting rooms and diplomatic halls, this gathering was a reminder that the conversations shaping Syria’s future extend well beyond those rooms. They also belong to the communities whose voices, experiences, and aspirations are part of that future.

As we wrap up our look back at SAC’s time in New York, one thing remains clear: meaningful engagement happens at every level, from policy discussions and diplomatic meetings to grassroots organizing and community gatherings.

Different spaces. One community. One purpose. 🇸🇾🇺🇸

عقد المجلس السوري الأمريكي في مكتبه بدمشق ندوة حوارية استضاف خلالها الأستاذ فراس الحلو، رائد الأعمال المتسلسل والمؤلف والمتحدث، بمشاركة عدد من طلاب المعهد الوطني للإدارة ورواد الأعمال والمهتمين.

تناولت الندوة محاور الابتكار في ريادة الأعمال، واستراتيجيات نمو الشركات الناشئة، وسبل التغلب على التحديات في السوق السورية.

وتأتي هذه الندوة في إطار تعزيز تبادل الخبرات والمعرفة، ودعم ثقافة الابتكار وريادة الأعمال، وفتح آفاق الحوار حول فرص تطوير المشاريع في سوريا.

SAC in New York | Part II: UNGA 2026 🇸🇾🇺🇸

From inside the United Nations, SAC was there as President Ahmed al-Sharaa addressed the General Assembly, a moment that carried particular meaning for Syrians and reflected how much has changed.

But UNGA week was about more than one speech. It opened space for conversations about where Syria goes from here and the role Syrian Americans can play in what comes next.

SAC members also joined a reception hosted by the U.S.-Syria Business Council (USSBC) and Syrian Forum, bringing together Syrian Americans, Syrian and U.S. officials, and others engaged in Syria’s future.

Across the week, the conversations spanned U.S.-Syria relations, rebuilding, investment and economic opportunity, transitional justice, civic engagement, and the role of the diaspora.

And across all of them, one thing was clear: Syrian Americans have an important role to play in this next chapter.

For SAC, showing up means making sure our community is part of these conversations, building the relationships that matter, and creating more opportunities for Syrian Americans to help shape what comes next.
