🕯️From this week's prayer liturgy: mfsaweb.org/candle

This week, we light the Candle of Light, Hope, and Peace for people who are struggling to afford food because of cuts to SNAP and other food assistance programs, and the social workers, researchers, and others whose life-saving work connecting families with nutrition assistance has been blocked or defunded. We pray for families and individuals who have to decide between paying for food or for gas, and those who are waiting in hours-long lines at food banks. As more than 3.5 million people nationwide have been cut off from much-needed assistance, we also pray for food bank workers trying to fill in the gaps.

God, we pray for policymakers to understand that hardship is not a sign of weakness, and to craft laws from a place of abundance rather than scarcity. We also pray for researchers at the Department of Agriculture whose research to help alleviate food insecurity has been canceled, and workers at state SNAP agencies who are faced with taking assistance away from people who need it.

Help us remember, God, that when we approach our neighbors with generosity and care, we are living out your love in the world. When we are tempted to judge others for needing help, remind us that we will also face difficult seasons.

God, make us examples of abundance and care in the world, and help us to find opportunities to support our communities in times of need. Help us to know that there will always be enough, and that we can make the parable of the loaves and fishes real in the world by approaching everyone with a spirit of generosity. Where fear of scarcity tempts us to hoard our resources, help us to freely share what we have and encourage our elected officials to do the same.

Our June issue of MFSAVoices is here and centers on Annual Conference season as a moment to ask what kind of church we are building together—and who must be centered in that work. Through the image of the plumb line, we reflect on MFSA’s role in helping the church stay aligned with justice, compassion, dignity, and courageous love.

Read it here: https://www.mfsaweb.org/resources/june-2026-mfsavoices

We also highlight new MFSA gear for Justice-Seekers, resources for potential 2028 General Conference delegates, reflections from our interns, Camille Bianca Sumera Manangan and Connor Prusha, and LYNC’s call for transparency and shared values in the future of The United Methodist Church. This issue continues to offer advocacy opportunities around immigration justice, Palestinian rights, climate justice, democracy, racial equity, and faithful resistance through the Candle of Peace, Hope, and Justice and Stories of Hope and Resistance.

🕯️From this week's prayer liturgy: mfsaweb.org/candle

This week, we light the Candle of Peace, Hope, and Justice for civilians who continue to be caught in the crossfire of war while nations speak of peace even as bombs continue to fall. We pray for families in Iran, Lebanon, and throughout the region who live each day beneath the shadow of violence, uncertainty, and grief. Even as leaders gather at negotiating tables and speak of peace, we know that ordinary people still gather their children, carry what they can, and flee in search of safety.

God of mercy, we confess how easily human lives become secondary to power, profit, and political calculation. As fuel prices rise and economies tremble, we remember that the burden never falls equally. The poorest families are so often the first to feel hunger, displacement, fear, and impossible choices about how to survive. And creation itself continues to bear the scars of war, extraction, fire, and human greed.

Yet even in a world that groans beneath violence and longing, we know that your Holy Spirit has not abandoned us. Teach us to seek a peace that is more than strategy or a temporary ceasefire. Teach us a peace rooted in justice, shared humanity, and care for the earth you have entrusted to us. And make us people who refuse to look away from one another’s suffering.

Did you know May 29th is 🥵 National Heat Awareness Day? 🥵

This annual observance raises awareness about the dangers of extreme heat and the importance of protecting outdoor workers.

For farm workers, that danger is especially urgent.

☀️ Farm workers are 35x more likely to die from heat-related stress than workers in other industries.

🍓 They harvest the food we depend on, often in dangerous temperatures and conditions that put their health at risk.

As we continue our 2026 focus on farm worker health, this is a good opportuntiy for us to pause, learn, and better understand what extreme heat means for the people who harvest our food.

General Board of Church and Society has a new opportunity to take action:

"Together, let’s uplift our voices by contacting our federal Representatives to support the Block the Bombs Act that would not only address U.S. involvement in the conflict, but also begin the de-escalation of violence in the Middle East."

Ban the sale of lethal weapons that are utilized in Israel’s genocidal campaign throughout the Middle East.
