On Thursday, October 8, MHCDO, the National Association of Minority Contractors – Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Chapter (NAMC-WMAC), and the DC National Guard Counterdrug Program are hosting the 2026 Jobs Not Guns & Jobs Not Drugs Citywide Recruitment & Resource Fair. 🙌

What to expect:
✅ Up to 100 exhibitors hiring across the military, fire & EMS, hospitality, construction, automotive, healthcare, and law enforcement
✅ Clark|Mortenson|Smoot, the team building the NEW Commanders Stadium, sharing how District residents, businesses, and contractors can get in on the project: First Source jobs, training and apprenticeships, and local and CBE business opportunities 🏟️
✅ Four community service hours for DCPS and DC public charter school students 🎓

We're also honoring Mayor Muriel Bowser for her leadership in funding gun violence prevention and fighting the opioid epidemic, and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton for her outstanding service to the District. 👏

The 3rd Annual Readiness Conference is dedicated to advancing disaster preparedness and community resilience by equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Through expert instruction, collaborative discussions, and practical training, the conference promotes a culture of preparedness while strengthening partnerships among government agencies, nonprofit organizations, private-sector stakeholders, and community members. Together, we are fostering resilient communities that can effectively withstand and recover from disasters while protecting lives, housing, infrastructure, and economic stability.

Deanwood is growing and MHCDO is proud to help lead the transformation through our program. From supporting local entrepreneurs with more than $40,000 in sub-grants, to helping spark the creation of 11 new businesses since Q1 2025, we are building a stronger commercial corridor rooted in community and opportunity.

The impact is real: business growth from 32 to 44 establishments and more than 10,000 new visitors welcomed into Deanwood. This is what intentional investment, placemaking, and small business support looks like in Ward 7.

MHCDO remains committed to creating vibrant, walkable, and economically thriving neighborhoods where residents and businesses can prosper together. The momentum in Deanwood is only the beginning. 💙
