Longtime Clean Cooking Champion H.E. Samira Bawumia said it best: access to modern energy for cooking can be transformational.

With clean cooking, air quality and health are improved; there is more time for educational and economic opportunities; pressure on forests is reduced.

Over 2 billion people worldwide still need access to clean cooking's benefits, which is why CCA continues to invest in the fundamentals of strong and sustainable clean cooking markets.

📢 CCA's 2025 Annual Report is out now.

Progress on clean cooking happens when governments act, markets function, and evidence drives decisions. In 2025, we saw all three.

Some highlights from the year:

🛣️ Sierra Leone, supported by its Delivery Unit, launched its first National Clean Cooking Strategy.

🗺️ Kenya, supported by its Delivery Unit, developed an institutional financing roadmap.

📊 CCA submitted the CLEAR Methodology for international approval and published a Buyer's Guide to High-Quality Cookstove Carbon Credits.

🎤 The User Insights Lab conducted research to help companies improve the design of electric pressure cookers.

🌍 Clean cooking appeared as a standing G20 agenda item for the first time, and received explicit mention in COP30's Just Transitions Work Program.

🎓 The Women in Clean Cooking mentorship program graduated its fourth cohort, with 63 leaders from 20 countries.

As CCA CEO Dymphna van der Lans noted, "There is a broad understanding that clean cooking matters. The harder question now is whether growing ambition can be turned into scaled and sustained implementation."

That question continues to motivate all of CCA's work.

Ted Turner's vision and generosity helped shine a light on some of the world's greatest challenges, including the need for greater access to clean cooking. We are honored to carry on this work.

The United Nations Foundation community is mourning the loss and honoring the life of our Founder and Chairman Ted Turner.

In 1997, Ted pledged $1 billion to create the UN Foundation, the largest individual philanthropic gift in history at the time.

We are honored to carry forward his torch.

Over the past 10 years, Nepal has charted a promising path to making clean cooking a reality for its population. With CCA set to wrap up a project on electric cooking in Madesh Province, funded by the Asian Development Bank, Karuna Bajracharya takes a look back at nearly a decade of progress, including:

✔️ Introducing the first electric cooking options in Kavre District and mountain villages
✔️ Establishing standards and testing for stoves
✔️ Developing the Clean Cooking Explorer energy planning tool
✔️ Identifying the most effective strategies for shifting peri-urban households to electric and biogas cooking
✔️ Supporting key policy tools like a country action plan for clean cooking

These achievements would not have been possible without CCA’s vast network of partners, including the Government of Nepal's National Planning Commission and Alternative Energy Promotion Center, Asian Development Bank, ICIMOD, SPI Nepal, and ATEC Global.

Thanks to Nepal’s strong clean cooking foundation and the government’s commitment, the country is well positioned to continue an energy transition at greater scale.

What does institutional clean cooking look like?

At Mama Ngina school in Kiambu County, Kenya, it looks like two 600-liter electric stoves, installed by Ecobora, with a BURN Manufacturing briquette stove as back-up in case of a power outage.

With these changes, the school can feed its nearly 2,400 students and immediately move away from smoky and expensive firewood.

Thanks to the Mama Ngina administration for organizing the school visit, along with CLASP, the Office of Kenya's Special Envoy for Climate Change, the International Energy Agency, the World Resources Institute, the MECS programme, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Verst Carbon, the Kenya Investment Authority (InvestKenya), and others.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to co-host last week's deep dive session at the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF) on Scaling Gender-Just Access to Clean Cooking Solutions.

Together with our partners at ENERGIA, SEforALL, SNV, GN-SEC, GWNET, OPEC Fund, EnDev, and UNIDO, we explored solutions that empower women as leaders, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers in the clean cooking transition.

A special highlight of the session was hearing from our two former Women in Clean Cooking mentorship program mentees, Jane Ekeh and Marie Louise Schmidt,, who shared powerful reflections from their journeys in clean cooking, highlighting both the barriers they faced and the opportunities ahead.

At IVECF, the Gender & Energy Compact marked its 5-year anniversary with a renewed call to action. We invite you to endorse it; learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e9iVW4cj

Across Kenya, schools, hospitals, and prisons feed millions of people daily, cooking almost entirely with smoky wood fires and inefficient stoves.

The Kenyan Government's new Clean Cooking Sector Investment Pack, developed by the Office of Kenya's Special Envoy for Climate Change through its Clean Cooking Delivery Unit, illustrates the opportunity of transitioning to clean cooking:
✔️ Fuel cost reductions
✔️ Rapid payback periods
✔️ Resources freed up for core social services like education and healthcare

What makes this investment so compelling?
- Predictable demand: Kenya's 100,000+ institutions provide consistent, visible energy needs.
- Proven technologies: The range of available appliances and fuels can be tailored to different institutional needs.
- Flexible financing: From lease models and energy savings contracts to carbon finance, multiple financing options can be combined to speed up implementation.
- Political commitment: Kenya's Clean Cooking Delivery Unit is actively building a pipeline of bankable opportunities.
