F-ck the Climate: A Friends of FERC Coalition

F-ck the Climate: A Friends of FERC Coalition F*ck the Climate is a national coalition dedicated to protecting the interests of FERC, the fossil fuel industry, and their proxies in government.

F*ck the Climate is a national coalition dedicated to protecting the interests of FERC, the fossil fuel industry it exists to serve, and their proxies in government. The coalition came together in response to the deeply disturbing movement to put people over profits. Insidious demands for clean air, drinkable water, and a stable climate have gone way too far. Our profits are under attack, so we're

fighting back! Unless we do all we can to f*ck the climate now, the kind of exploitation-free energy system that haunts our dreams might one day become a reality. F*ck the Climate is a diverse coalition. We are united by five guiding principles.

1.) FOSSIL FUELS ARE LIFE-SUSTAINING. Just like vampires are nourished by drinking blood and draining the life of their victims, we are nourished by burning fossil fuels and draining life on Earth.

2.) ENERGY NEUTRALITY IS HERE TO STAY

FERC is officially energy neutral. That means FERC doesn't prioritize one form of energy over another. Instead, capitalism, the invisible hand of the market, and all of their rigged trappings guide everything FERC does. Although fossil fuel energy sources will destroy the climate and although energy neutrality will create destruction and death around the world, the market is more important to us.

3.) THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT EXISTS TO SERVE THE FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY. FERC is an arm of the oil and gas industries, and that's as it should be. FERC is meant to regulate opposition to the industry and increase industry profits. The same is true of the United States Congress. We celebrate all senators and representatives who fight to f*ck the climate by allowing business as usual to continue at FERC.

4.) A FEW SHORT TERM JOBS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN LONG TERM JOB SECURITY. We need job, and we need them now. It doesn't matter if they're short term. Fossil fuels exacerbate climate change, and climate change destabilizes the world economy. Food shortages, geopolitical conflict, and mass migrations happening with increasing severity as a result of climate change will put a heavy strain on job security and send more and more people into poverty. That doesn't concern us. We know fossil fuel infrastructure only creates a few short term jobs and makes energy CEO's rich, but that's exactly what we want.

5.) WHITE SUPREMACY UPHOLDS PERMITS FOR FOSSIL FUEL INFRASTURCTURE. We embrace white supremacy because it justifies FERC's permitting of fossil fuel infrastructure. Although FERC's permits exacerbate climate change, and climate change will disproportionately hurt communities of color and indigenous people around the world, we stand by those permits. The United States was built on the exploitation and genocide of people of color and indigenous communities. We will fight to make sure FERC's permits continue to uphold that tradition.

The climate may be f*cked in part because of its rubber-stamping of fossil fuel infrastructure, but hey, at least FERC is a good place to work.

Thank you to Governor of Virginia Ralph Northam for supporting the least among us—Dominion and EQT.

“Northam said prayer "has really kept me grounded over the years," and he quoted one of his favorite Bible verses, Matthew 25:40, "The king will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

"This is all about giving back; it's all about having a blessed life and remembering to do everything that we can to take care of those that are perhaps less fortunate than us," he said.

Gov. Ralph Northam talked about workforce development, opioid crisis, broadband at a prayer breakfast on the Eastern Shore.

Ya’ll—FERC commissioners may approve permits that hurt a lot of people, but take a look at their cute, endearing answers to some of these questions.

“The Energy Bar Association closed its annual meeting last week with a panel discussion with five former FERC chairs whose terms collectively spanned two decades.

“At the end of the session, moderator and FERC Administrative Law Judge Lawrence Brenner elicited confessions from some of the panelists over “impulsive” actions they took as chair.

Bay recalled being up until 2 a.m. the night before the FERC Christmas party because he insisted on hand squeezing the 20 pounds of limes needed to make proper margaritas. “You can probably divide the world into two camps: the people who believe that a margarita can be made from a mix, and the people who realize, no, you really need to use fresh squeezed lime juice,” he said.

Kelliher recalled when vineyards near California’s Russian River petitioned him to authorize the release of water from hydro projects during a drought.

“Of course my first thought was, ‘I really like Russian River red wine.’ But my question to the staff was, ‘What legal authority do I have to do that?’ And the response was, ‘Highly questionable’ — FERC-staff speak for nonexistent.

“And I thought about it for about 10 seconds and I said, ‘Release the water!’” he said to laughter. “It felt very Christ-like. I knew it was the closest I would get to being holy. … I wasn’t turning water into wine but authorizing water. … And I thought if I go down [get overturned], I’ll get a Wine Spectator cover or something.”

When it comes to money, communities and the climate are a small price to pay. Profits for the fossil fuel industry are so important. Good work, FERC!

FERC employees may be complicit in the destruction of communities and the climate at the hands of the fracked gas industry and corporate greed, but we at F*ck the Climate: A Friends of FERC Coalition would like to commend the agency for creating an enjoyable work environment. Hiding the pain and suffering FERC brings to people around the country from their employees is no easy task . Good work, FERC!
