We hold dances at Saint Stephens Church in the Mount Pleasant/Columbia Heights neighborhood of DC.
--
Used to be that square dancing could be found in almost any American city or town, danced by young and old, black and white, urban and rural folks alike. Never been square dancing before? Don't worry! It's easy to learn and requires no previous experience. You don't need to bring a partner or w
ear any special getup. We always have live music and a caller to walk you through the dances. BOOKING INFO: Please email [email protected] if you are interested in calling or playing. Please note that we feature primarily old-time string band music. VOLUNTEER INFO: This dance is entirely volunteer-run. We need your help to make it happen! Please come early or stay late to help set up and clean up the hall. If you have specific skills or interests, we would love to have your help. Please email [email protected] for more info. WHO ARE WE? The Collective is a group of music and dance lovers who volunteer their time to make the dance happen. We are: Janine Smith, Bradley Kennedy, Stan Fowler, Michael Lyons, Brent Feito, Andie Hunt, Dave Hauver, Anna Purinton, Joel Bluestein, Don Fahey, Jim Serfass, and Lucia Schaefer. Past members include Paul Brown, Julia Feder, Rose Mohan, Brandt Ryder, Kaitlin Rienzo-Stack, Scott Prouty, Gabe Popkin, Kaythi Han, Kathryn Urban, David Koehler-Stanescu, and Cynthia Connolly. The DC Square Dance is not affiliated with Saint Stephens Church. We simply rent the space from them to put on the dance. However, we love them dearly!
